I'm a security tech and monitor Kidde Smoke Detectors using a Kidde SM120X relay.
My wiring is simple: White, black, red to the smoke detector circuit, and I use the blue and orange to trip the alarm panel.
A problem arises when the electrician, using the SM120X, interconnects the sprinkler system to sound the smoke detectors when water flow is detected.
Their method is to use the Figure 3 and 4 method where the sprinkler flow relay applies power to the relay module. It works fine for them, but my separate relay, which is wired for continuous power, does not respond.
I have to rewire their way of doing it to the Figure 2 method where power is continuously applied to the SM120X. Everything now works as it should.
The specs say that in both cases of continous or non continuous power, a 9VDC is applied to the interconnect circuit when the sprinkler relay activates, which should now trip my relay.
Why does my relay not work if the electricians do it their way?
I would pose this question directly to the manufacturer. I'm kind of surprised that the AHJ would approve such a configuration to begin with, as I would not have thought such interconnection would meet the intent of the code for notification, but then I don't know all the circumstances. I would ask Kidde directly.

You are going to hate this as much as I did!
In the manual you will read this ..
Manual for Kidde Nighthawk C02 Detector
On page 13
----------------------------------
Unit Malfunction
In the rare event that your alarm malfunctions,
it will alert you with a short “chirp” and the red
LED will flash once every 30 seconds. The
digital model will display “Err” as shown in
Fig. 6.
Seven years after initial power up, this unit will "chirp" every
30 seconds to indicate that it is time to replace the alarm.
The unit will not detect CO in this condition. Please replace
immediately.

Hi,
was there also an alarm with that reading? Normally it would suggest gas leak.

Some models of Carbon Monoxide Detectors will give an audible beep every 25-30 seconds after it has sounded an alert alarm. This may have happened when there was noone home to hear it. A periodic beeping sound may also indicate it is time to change the battery.
Solution: Install a new battery and check your manual for instructions on how to reset the system. Check the expiry date on your unit, it needs to be replaced after 5 to 7 years, according to the manufacturer specifications.
If you are in doubt that your Carbon Monoxide Detector is not working effectively, REPLACE IT. Your safety and your peace of mind is worth it.

My Smotec 3786A indicates not to install it in above 85% humidity.
One of my three seems to go off annually or so and this is what
recently put it down to. I was making an espresso coffee on the
stove and it generates a lot of steam and off goes the fire alarm.
I did change the battery to no avail.
