Its not the laser. It seems the problem is the little plastic sprocket that is mounted on the motor that moves the laser back and forth. It has a tendency to crack, which causes the gears not to mesh. Its an easy fix. just remove that gear and take a small drill bit and make the hole larger (but not too much) to minimize pressure on the gear. Reassemble and it should work like new.

SOURCE: Just Loading - Bad Disc

Normally I would say clean the laser lens, but I actually had the exact same model with the exact same problem, and that didn't work. I was able to get mine to work sometimes by turning it off and on and unplugging it, but even after opening it up, re-lubricating the gears, and replacing a few capacitors near the reader, I never did find a permanent solution.
I guess this isn't what you wanna hear, but I think its an untraceable problem with the motherboard.

I can get the home page up on the tv where it says cyberhome. i put disc in and it says loading and then it says bad disc. what does a bad disc mean?

Assuming the player is fine, the 'Bad Disc' display message usually means either a disc which is an incompatible format (for example DVD-ROM) with this player; a disc which is a region that does not match that of the unit; or a defective/damaged disc. Check the discs prior to using them in this player and if they are burned discs, make sure they are a compatible standard format for playback.

This model is not region-free by default unless stated otherwise in the manual.

Bad Disc - CH-DVD 300 DVD Player Problem

Goto the following site: http://www.drx9000repair.netfirms.com/#Cyberhome%20CH%20300 You more than likely have a bad power supply. The caps in the output circuit are pretty crappy and are well known for failure. Good luck! Art
