Picture too dark

The contrast setting controls the relation between the light and black areas of the screen. If the light areas are too bright and are losing details, press the CVOL button; if the picture is gray and lacks contrast, press the VOLB button

The brightness setting controls the overall amount of light in the picture. If the picture is too bright, press the CVOL button; if the picture is too dark, press the VOL B button

The color setting controls the intensity of color.

You can adjust the brightness and contrast of your monitor to improve the readability of text and to make digital pictures appear more like they'll look when printed.

To improve the results when adjusting the brightness and contrast settings for your display, use Display Color Calibration. (Display Color Calibration helps you adjust these color settings and others.) For more information about calibrating your display color in Windows, see Calibrate your display.

The way you adjust brightness and contrast varies and depends on your specific display.

• On-screen menu. You can change the brightness and contrast settings for some displays by using an on-screen menu, and then setting the brightness and contrast in the resulting menu. You may have a problem with the inverters in the unit, they are responsible for lighting up the back panel. Check or have checked the power supply voltage to the inverters, should be around 18-24 volts DC. Also leaky capacitors on the power supply will cause this issue as well as leaky or puffy capacitors on the inverter.

If the screen is dark, then the brightness and contrast adjustment must be poor. Use the MENU key (in the TV or the Remote, either) adjust the brightness and contrast as per your viewing convenience. Service manual for this model is not in my knowledge and you should not try to repair or troubleshoot it by yourself without proper knowledge of the circuit workings inside.

there is a problem in the flyback section of the tv set. the fly back has two knobs, one for screen and the other for focus. use the screen knob to adjust the brighness. if it did not help, either check the capacitors around the flyback or change the fly back with a new one. good luck

Sounds like the picture tube is going bad or there is a screen voltage capacitor bad in the sweep power supply.

if the picture is REALLY dark, like you can just barely see it in a lit room, then the backlight might not be lit. LCD TVshave backlight that shines through the LCD screen which allows you to see the picture.

If it's not the backlight then it would be the brightness/contrast settings that need to be adjusted. If the picture used to be normal and all of a sudden went dark, verify the backlight. Normally you can look through the slots on the top of the set and determine if the backlight is on. If you can see a bright light through any of the slots, the backlight is probably OK... go after the brightness/contrast settings.

Capacitors on the Ysus is bad. Buy a new Ysus board or change the 14 components on it from a repair kit

If the backlight lights up for a second it's probably fine - It lay odds on the display inverter in the screen. Actually finding parts for anything made by gateway may be difficult, however. They do not sell spare parts. Considering the size of the LCD i bet it would almost exceed the replacement cost of the screen to repair it

problem with my monitor Viewsonic E70....Memory recall keep flashing......any help out there.....
