Affinity aeq6000es2. After two cycles of the clothes not being dried, my husband turned on the dryer than looked behind it. As this was happening, large sparks starting shooting off in the drum and making loud cracking noises. There was only one shirt in the dryer that did have metal snaps on it. I do not want to turn it back on. Do you know what would cause little heat and then sparks?

Sounds like your heating element opened up,as it was running and when the element broke it arced and these were the sparks you saw,you will need a new heater element

My dryer (Frigidaire Affinity)just stopped working as if the power shut off.. I have checked the breaker, it's fine. it stopped in the middle of a drying cycle. I'm thinking the control panel went out

http://www.appliancepartspros.com/repair-help/frigidaire-dryer-aeq6000es2-repair/aeq6000es2-wont-start.html
Take a look at this web page/video. Your problem may be that the thermal limiter switch blew (which is not that easy to replace) .... compared to something in the control panel going out. Had you been doing a lot of heavy dryer loads before the unit died .. or a lot of lint built up? A blown limiter switch in some dryers will be as if you unplugged it (nothing goes on) ... but some dryers will still turn the drum but not heat. I am not sure about your unit.
The limiter switch is a safety device so your dryer does not overheat .... so if the switch did blow try to understand WHY .... or it may just blow again.
Good luck...

It just doesn't seem like my frigidaire gas affinity dryer is drying as fast as it should

Hey Car Guy,.. there are two factors that determine how fast the clothes will dry:
1- air temperature, Is the gas burner is lighting and heating the air? Just stop the dryer mid-cycle and feel the clothes - if they are hot, then the burner/heating part of the dryer is working ok.

2 - adequate air going through the dryer. This is usually where the problem lies. There is a lint filter at the dryer somewhere, accessed either where the door opens, or on the top of the dryer....there may be an additional lint filter somewhere on the exhaust duct. Check for that, and check your air flow where it exhausts outslde. See that the flappers of the backdraft damper aren't stuck closed etc.

If you have good heat and good air flow, then it's doing all it can.

Takes 3 cycles to dry clothes even on towel cycle

If the clothes are hot when they come out but moist or damp it mean the moisture is not getting vented, Check your vent pipe for blockages or leaks.

LED display on dryer reads AD???

All this is doing is letting you know that the Auto dry sensors are kicked in and checking to see how dry the clothing is.

Frigidaire affinity dryer problem

the thermistor in air outlet duct is very common for these. with front panel off find plastic duct from blower at bottom. pull out thermistor and look at inner side. it has triangular shape and if you can see shiny redish color at tip instead of all black then its worn. this causes numerous heat and control issues.
