My Acer Aspire 5535-5050 laptop will only start up in "safe mode", but in that mode it won't let me delete or make changes to any of the hardware, programs, uninstall, etc. Once in a while it will start up in regular mode, where my screen saver and desktop icons appear, but I am unable to open ANY programs or even the "start" menu. When i let it sit for a while in "safe mode" this message comes up: "The screen saver couldn't run b/c it requires a new video card or one that's compatible with Direct 3d". I don't know if a new video card is the solution, or it I have a virus, or if there is another problem or solution. Thanks.
When you get to safe mode try to do a system restore to a date that the computer worked............on xp it will give you a screen to enter safemode with yes or no options ........choose no to go diorectly to system restore...............if not xp look for system restore in the system tools folder on start menu or in control panel............the screen saver error is most likely because you are in safe mode.
