Either the metering diaphram or pumping diaphram are getting hard or the filtering screen in the carb has a varnish on it.

Of course this sounds like the traditional fuel delivery problem that is adressed on this forum everyday. Check fuel lines, fuel filter (in tank), spark plug...muffler for carbon build up (esp on spark arrestor screen)...worst case is carb problem...check the other stuff first and look closely for any loose screws, parts and holes or cracks in fuel lines .We hope it is something simple that won't require a carb rebuild.

455 rancher runs with chock out 15 second and dies

Try opening the choke half way as soon as it starts then all the way open in a few seconds... It only needs the choke to start and should run fine in less than a minute after idleing with the choke not engaged...

Choking out

Are you sure its not really running out of gas ?
The fuel pump gets power from the pump relay for 3 seconds when you crank the engine, then the computer must "see" oil pressure or RPM to allow the relay to continue powering the pump.
The pump relay may not be working, or the pump may be faulty.

Znen 150cc scooter vapor lock

Take a look at the automatic choke. On my Znen 150T-18 I had the same problem. The automatic choke was stucn the on position. It would start then when it warmed up the choke would stay on instead of turning off. The engine would turn off.

JD L120 riding mower keeps dying on me

Loosen fuel cap 1 turn to see if it will stay running.Theres a tank breather hole/vent in the cap and when it becomes plugged no air can get into fuel tank when fuel is used,can also be a plugged fuel filter.

My troybuilt yard pony riding lawnmower will start with the choke fully open and then dies immediatly when you take the choke off. It will only start and run with the choke fully open, but dies after 20-30...

Do you mean that you can start it normally using the choke (that would be choke CLOSED), but then it dies immediately when you move it to run (that would be choke OPEN)? And if you leave the choke in the starting position that it dies after 20-30 seconds?----- If I have that all right, then you definitely have a restriction in the gas supply. Drain all of the gas from the mower and don't use any old gas. If you have any more old gas (from last season) don't use it. If this mower has a gas filter, replace it. Put just a little fresh gas in the tank plus a little of the cleaner. Start it up, do that a few times if needed. Use a fuel additive such as Sea Foam to keep the gas from gumming up so fast.

Tiller won't stay running

If you choke or prime the engine, it starts up for a second or two and dies, the carburetor need to be cleaned/repaired.

1998 honda shadow will not start

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a few possibilities you may want to check/explore:
  • stale gasoline;
  • clogged fuel filter (inside the tank above the fuel shutoff valve;
  • clogged, bocked, varnished, gummed carbs, jets, air pin holes;
  • stuffed air filter/box;
  • vacuum leak (rubber coupling, manifold side);
  • air leak (airbox base assembly seated/fitted on the carbs.
Basically, a general cleanup of the fuel lines, tank and the carbs. Sitting for some time tends to leave varnish like coating on most parts.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.
