Dishes and particularly glasses coming out cloudy

I have tried cleaning all the filters and clearing the jets on the washing arms, but our glassware still comes out with a chalky residue, leaving them with a coating of film. I've also tried changing dishwasher detergent and have tried gels, tablets and powders - nothing changes. Any ideas?

Yes. pour two cups of white vinegar into the empty machine. Run your hottest and longest cycle. Always turn on the hot water in the sink and let it run as hot as it will get before you start your machine.

This will clean your machine. Repeat this cleaning as often as necessary. J.

It depends if you are in a hard water area, ie, it could be limescale which only shows on glassware. The only solution to getting rid of limescale is by fitting a small electronic device on your cold water mains supply into the premises.
Its a simple process but has a magical outcome.
Have a look online for 'Electronic Water Softeners' there's lots on the market. They are simple in manufacture and design and you shouldn't spend more than £70 on one.

How did I get the film off my glassware? My glassware has a thick film that is very unappealing. I have to hand wash them. I use cascade detergent.

If you are not using a water softener use a rinse aid such as Jet Dry. This will help to eliminate scum on glassware. Use the solid form of Jet Dry. If you use a water softener you need to decrease the amount of detergent.
You can determine the cause of cloudy glassware by soaking a glass in vinegar for 5 minutes. If the cloudiness is removed it is a hard water deposit and more detergent is likely needed. If the cloudiness is not removed it is a permanent condition known as etching. In this situation, use less detergent and stop pre-washing. In actuality, dishwashing detergent needs a bit of soil to work on, otherwise it will tend to foam up.

Glasses and dishes are coming out with white residue and clumps on them after full normal wash and dry cycle

Hello.. Firstly check thet the spray arms are clean. make sure there arent any jets blockd. Make sure the spray arms turn freely. Before closing the door on a cycle spin the arms to ensure no item is stopping the turning action.
make sure all of the water pumps out of the machine. There should be only a small amount of water under the filter after use. Any blockages should be cleared. Check where the drain connects under the sink for a partial blockage down the spiggot.

So if all this is Ok then ensure there is rinse aid in the dispenser. do not use tablets onlyrinse aid in the dispenser provided. Use a small amount of powder in the dispenser. Too much powder can over saturate the solution doing the wash and leave too much cloudy residue.

I assume the water being used is not too hard. It can look clear in a glass but be too hard. Especially artesian water.

You might try an acid descaler to return the machine to an internally clean condiditn. By the way always use a hort cycle. Economy cycles dont do yhe jop over a long period. You need to have a hot 70 degree cycle regularly.
Good luck

You can determine the cause of cloudy glassware by soaking a glass in vinegar for 5 minutes. If the cloudiness is removed it is due to hard water deposits; make sure the salt reservoir is topped up. Do not worry about over-filling it.

My dishes come out with cloudy film on them.

From Whirlpool:

*Film is due to either etching or silica film. Silica film is a milky, rainbow-colored deposit and etching is a cloudy film. Sometimes there is a water/chemical reaction with certain types of glassware.
o Silica film and etching are permanent and cannot be removed. Both can occur in any automatic dish washing machine and result from a water/chemical reaction with certain types of glassware. They are caused by some combination of:
+Soft or softened water.
+Alkaline washing solution.
+Insufficient rinsing.
+Dishwasher overloading.
+Heat of drying.
+Long/hot cycles.

To slow the down this process:

*Use a minimum amount of detergent but not less than 1 tablespoon per load.
*Use a liquid rinse aid.
*Under load the dishwasher to allow thorough rinsing.
*Do not use heated drying.
*Wash glasses by hand.

Do the following:

1. do you use a rinse agent
2. clean out the drain.
3. if you have a food disposal, run hot water through it and turn it on to clear it out before you turn on the dishwasher. The dishwasher drains into that sink. If you notice food or dirty water backing up into you sink when the dishwasher is draining, then the sink could have a minor clog and is backing up and being re-sprayed onto your dishes.
Source(s):
Use SANIVAC to clean lime deposits and extend the life of your dishwasher. If you have heavy water.

Run your dishwasher empty and pour in a cup of bleach and a cup of white vinegar to get the residue out.....run a regular cycle.......How hot is your hot water tank set on? The hotter the water the better a dishwasher washes and rinses, be careful it's not to hot as your shower and other sinks also will get this hot water......cut your dish soap down and make sure to use a Jet Rinse Aid. Again, be sure to use a liquid soap, and rinse agent, powders will cause a caustic reaction. Hope this helps. Let me know if there is anything else I can help you with.

Not coming clean

Hi, Are you using Jet Dry Rinse Agent? It is very important to keep the washer supplied with this stuff. Otherwise, glassware will come out with a cloudy film and water spots. If you are using it, perhaps it is not being dispensed by the machine. I am having this trouble now, but my machine is about 10 years old, and has always turned out beautiful glassware unless it ran out of Jet Dry. Now, there seems to be a problem in my machine not dispensing it, and I was searching for a solution when I came across your posting. Baxterdog

Washing leaves spots

If your dishes or glassware appear filmy or spotted following a complete wash cycle, adjusting the amount or type of detergent you're using and adjusting your hot water heater's water temperature may solve the problem. But before you do either of these, put a rinse additive (such as Jet-Dry) in the rinse dispenser to improve the sheeting action of the water. First you'll have to determine whether the film is removable or permanently etched. To do this, soak a glass in undiluted white vinegar for about 15 minutes. Or, you can wash the glass with warm water and concentrated dishwasher detergent or use a high-phosphate detergent (such as Glass Magic) according to label directions. If film comes off, it is probably caused by hard water minerals, improper amounts of detergent, or unsuitable water temperature. See "Doesn't wash well," above. Permanent etching is often caused by a combination of soft water and excessive heat or detergent. If glassware is permanently etched, there isn't anything you can do to make it clear again. But you can avoid future etching by taking these steps: 1) Be sure hot water entering the dishwasher is no hotter than 140 degrees F. Don't use extra hot settings, such as "Power Scrub" and use "Energy Saver" dry cycle. 2) Adjust detergent amount. 3) Don't pre-rinse your dishes before loading them in the dishwasher. Food particles on the dishes actually help the detergent and drying agents clean better.
