I just searched google for "hp deskjet f4288 drivers for windows 7" and took the first link, which was the official hp website. Then i navigated to the drivers download page for your particular printer. and for driver download, there was an option to select the operating system for which i needed the drivers. There were both Windows 7 32 bit and Windows 7 64 bit as options there. So, It has to work. If it doesn't HP customer care will help you.
It is HP60 or HP60XL. There's a complete list with part numbers including new and remanufactured cartridges here:

Its possible that your f4288 software CD only has drivers for Windows XP or older operating systems. Unfortunately they are not compatible with Windows 7. Try going to the HP website and look at the support area for the F4288, see if they have updated Windows 7 drivers or look for Vista drivers if Windows 7 are not available (as Vista drivers are supposed to be compatible with Windows 7). If Windows 7 (or Vista) drivers are not available on the HP website you are out of luck for now until HP releases new drivers.
