An SD card less than 4GB in capacity should be readable or usable in just about any device designed for SD cards.
If the card is an SDHC type card (an SD style with "High Capacity" or "SDHC" for short) it may not be readable in some devices. "SD" and "SDHC" cards look identical, but it is the those that can hold 4GB and more that bear the SDHC logo somewhere on the label. If the device says it works with SD you can't expect it to reliable (or at all in some cases) work with SDHC cards.
If the device indicates that it can be used with SDHC cards, it can read both the newer, larger capacity "SDHC" types and the older, lower capacity "SD" type cards.
Lastly, your device (or phone in this case) may have to be set for "mass storage mode" or "USB storage mode" in order for the memory to appear as a separate drive. Check your manual for such setting.

click start control panel administrative tools computer management device manager scroll down universal serial bus controllers you could see a yellow question / exclamation mark? ! or a red X
you will need to update/reinstall drivers
right click to reinstall drivers
if you can see your usb drive but its not working
ports (com&lpt) right click update driver if this fails to fix the problem
check the USB leads that attach to the motherboard usually red white green black make sure they are securely seated and have no dust build up on them dust will cause static and a lot of unforeseen problems for a computer and its parts
if its not working on your mobile it might be faulty
