Samsung SyncMaster 931BF LCD Monitor Logo
Posted on Jul 15, 2010

I have a Samsung SyncMaster 931BF. I love the screen, but for quite awhile, the screen has been having a hard time coming on and staying on. I'll have to cycle the power multiple times to get the screen to stay on and it's getting really bad now. I have read that the problem is either capacitors, the power supply, or the backlight, with it most likely being capacitors. My problem is that I can't figure out how to get the screen's case to open to see inside! I have tried everything in the repair manual (the actual manual technicians use) and unfortunately, it doesn't just "lift off" b/c it catches on something inside. Anyone know how to open the dang thing up?!?

Remove its stand
Unscrew all the screws in the back.
It doesnt just lift off I guess you could say, there are many clamps around the edge that need to be "popped" by sliding anything thin enough to get between the front and back of the case to pop them.

I popped mine open the other night. The clamps appear to be hard to break, at least in my circumstance. None of them broke with a fair amount of pressure from pulling being applied.

Also, mine had your exact same issue until one day it no longer turned on completely. It just flashed the screen once and showed a flashing power light around the button. Replacing 3 capacitors that were just barely bulging on the top fixed the issue.

SOURCE: How to open case/shell of Samsung SynMaster 931BF???

You remove all the screws, stand, then useing the thin flat blade screw driver to crack open the case, starting at the bottom edge and work your way around, it is hard to tell you in words. Try Youtube also.

My Samsung syncmaster 2220WM will not stay on. It

Hello,

The picture board on your monitor has been malfunctioning for quite the period but you did not notice it, since the screen goes blank, it means the picture board of your monitor has developed fault and will need to be replaced.

The best thing for you to do now is to take the monitor to a local repairer within your vicinity to help with the replacement of the picture board because the fault is not something you can fix yourself, in order not to complicate issues.

Take care.

Hooked Samsung SyncMaster 931BF monitor to laptop and the letters on the screen are choppy. I can play with the settings on the monitor but can't get the letters to line up straight.

This looks like a driver/resolution problem. Which laptop are you using? New laptops shouldn't give you any hassles, but older models don't always have the graphics cards to support all monitor sizes.

Make sure your monitor driver is installed on the laptop and that you have the latest graphics drivers installed for your laptop.

You can download the screen driver here: http://driverzone.com/device.php?id=55741

Then check that the resolution for your monitor is set correctly on your laptop under display properties. The native resolution for the screen is 1280x1024.

Hope this helps,

Monitor comes on momentarily then black...tried 2nd monitor same

I suggest you try another video card in your computer. This may be the culprit if the second monitor did the same thing as the first. If the different video card does the same thing, I would then suspect the motherboard.

Samsung SyncMaster 192N loses picture; requires re-boot

Unfortunately, you two have two unrelated problems. CB, the monitor isn't asking you for the password, that's the computer itself going into hibernation, which shuts down the video output, hard drive, etc. You need to go into the power-save settings and either disable hibernate, or change the settings to your liking.

The other question about the screen staying on for 5 seconds... thats an inverter board problem.
