How to use dual band on router?

You can only use it in the 2.4 ghz mode or the 5 ghz mode:

1. Log in to the Router by going to http://www.routerlogin.net or http://www.routerlogin.com

and entering the default user name admin and default password password, or using whatever

LAN address and password you have set up.

2. Select Wireless Settings under Setup in the main menu to display the Wireless Settings

screen.

3. Select the region in which the wireless interface will operate.

4. Set up the 2.4 GHz wireless network:

a. Enter the SSID name. The default is NETGEAR.

b. Select the operating channel for the wireless mode. The default is Auto. When Auto is

selected, the router finds the best operating channel available.

If you notice interference from nearby devices, you can select a different channel.

Channels 1, 6, and 11 will not interfere with each other.

c. Leave the wireless mode set to the default setting of Up to 145Mbps for 2.4GHz.

5. Select security options for the 2.4GHz wireless network.

The wireless Security Options are set to None by default. NETGEAR strongly recommends

that you use wireless security. You can select a different Security Option and a different

passphrase for each wireless network. For the highest performance of the 2.4GHz wireless

network and the most secure encryption, NETGEAR recommends that you use WPA2-PSK as

your security option.

6. Set up the 5GHz wireless network:

a. Enter the SSID name. The default is NETGEAR-5G.

b. Select the operating channel for the wireless mode. The default channel is 36. If there is an

Auto option in the channel list and you select it, the router will find the best operating

channel available.

If you notice interference from nearby devices, you can select a different channel.

c. Leave the wireless mode set to the default setting of Up to 300Mbps for 5GHz.

7. Select security options for the 5 GHz wireless network.

The wireless Security Options are set to None by default. NETGEAR strongly recommends

that you use wireless security. You can select a different Security Option and a different

passphrase for each wireless network. For the highest performance of the 5 GHz wireless

network and the most secure encryption, NETGEAR recommends that you use WPA2-PSK asyour security option.

What is a network key?

Hello there
network key is a security feature that prevents unauthorized users from accessing a wireless network. It can be a simple password or a self-generated combination of digits and letters. A good number of wireless networks are still left unprotected, leaving them vulnerable to hackers and data thieves. Most home and SOHO routers allow users to configure a high degree of wireless security easily.
There are many types of wireless security scenarios to consider when configuring a wireless network. The most common types for home and office use are WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) and WPA (Wi-Fi Protected Access). Each of these types has multiple options and different bits (which heighten security of the wireless network). There is also an entire spectrum of more complex, enterprise-wide wireless security standards, but most of these are well beyond the scope of the average computer user.

What does it mean by network security key

The name 'network security key' is itself self-explanatory. Every network has a security key and you will need this key to be a part of that network. Just as is the case of any other term that comes from the field of network engineering, there are a lot more details attached to this term, too. So, let us try to understand all the aspects related to network security key

An explanation as to why we need a wireless network security key is not even required. Still, if any one is skeptical about adding any complexity to their available wireless network, just think about it. Your wireless network range can be detected by any other computer with a wireless setup and that comes within the range of the network. So, without you knowing, it's very easy for any user to get connected to your wireless network and gain access to all the data that you intend to share only with those computers with which you have setup your wireless network. So, what is a wireless network security key and how is it useful in such situations?

Well, a network security key or passphrase is something like a password, which any user who wants to connect to your computer will require. But, I think that before we go into the details of figuring out, how to get network security key for wireless computer, we should take a look at the different methods of securing your wireless network

I need to add a password to my wireless network

Do you want to secure the wireless network ?
For that you will need to access the router set up.
You said that you want to add a password. I don't understand that. Is your wireless network already secured ? Or you want to make it secured ?
If it is already secured then it must have the password to connect to the wireless network. You can use only 1 password for the network. You can not use 2 password for the wireless network.
If your network is not secured yet then you will need to make it secured and enable password protection on it.

Cannot connect new laptop to wireless network. Belkin Wireless N

The wireless settings on the laptop and the router should match. To check the settings on the router you need to access the setup page by typing 192.168.2.1 in a web browser's address bar.

By default the password is blank.

Click the Wireless tab. And take note of the SSID or wireless network name.

Go to Security, then Wireless. If the wireless security is enabled, copy the network key or security key.

On the wireless computer, you should detect SSID and if wireless security is enabled, connect to it with the correct security keys.

Hope this helps! Good luck!
