Our house had a wireless doorbell - not reliable so we'd like to install a wired one. the wires are there but we are confused. There are 4 wires - 2 black & 2 red coming out of the hole where the bell box goes. We only have one door where a puch botton goes. There are 2 wires there - one red & one black. We found the transformer and there are 2 wires coming out of it - one red and one black. We can't fugure out what the 4 wire are for at the bell box - since very wiring diagram we have found only shows 3 wires going into the bell box and that's only if you have a 2nd door with a bell. We have tried every combination of the 4 wires between the screw marked 'front' and the screw marked 'transformer' with no luch. Any ideas?
Yes it is very simple. All you have to do is connect either the two red wires together or the two black wires together and put the other remaining two on the doorbell chime to the common and front terminals. Here is how it works. One red wire leaves the transformer. It connects to the other red wire going to the pushbutton. When you press the button the voltage comes back to the bell on the black. You have the other black from the transformer on the bell so that completes the circuit. The only reason I say to put either the two blacks or two reds together is that way you're sure to have one wire from the transformer and one from the doorbell. Not a 'pair" of wires from each.
