Although most frost free freezers will hardly ever frost up,some will,(it depends on overall humidity)by frost free the makers say "food is frost free"but the inside is shinny plastic and all shinny surfaces will collect condensation and frost up.(look under the salad crisper, condensation?)it is worthwhile, about once a year, doing a complete defrost(NO sharp objects)and vacuum out all the vents/clean out any drain holes.
saves you a fortune in power.......

Why are only drawers in fridge cold & not making ice?

Contact a professional. Sounds like either your damper door is not operating correctly and not letting enough cool air from the freezer enter, or there is an air leak that is making ice form .

(There is a defrost heater on the evaporator in that area.If
you have a VOM you could check it with the power plug pulled out of the wall socket)

if you access the area turn the defrost timer on (clockwise)it should get warm in that area and you shoud hear a popping sound

Fridge warm, freezer has frost on back panel & is defrosting, fans work, just changed defrost thermostat, no air is moving from freezer side to fridge side, drain pan under fridge is dry

this fan needs to run when the compressor runs, check fan blade for being jammed by ice if you have this much ice on back wall as ice will stall motor,if no fan there will be no cool air to refrige compartment also the defrost drain tray will fill with water then freeze over which in turn floods the freezer floor and refrige compartments cause it cannot drain to the pan in the bottom

Freezer compartment has ice while refrigerator compartment not cooling

the freezer blows cold air into the fridge section and then it returns, first open the freezer door,do you hear the fan blowing,if not you could have a bad evap fan motor, next from the bottom remove the second bin or draw and put your hand on the back wall,is there like snow or ice on the back wall,if so you have a defrost problem, you could have a bad timer, thermostat or a bad heater, also check the packages and the shelves,if you see frozen water droplets the door was left open and the air ducts are frozen up and the cold air can't be blown over to the fridge side.get back to me and tell me what you find and i can help you figure out what's happening

Condesation on water/ice dispensing area ofside by side refrigerator

Sounds like the recess heater is defective or disconnected. Its functions are to prevent cold sweat from building around the area as the electrical strip heater does around the doors.. If you want try to repair without calling service let me now. It is a little tedious and tricky to reach. If it were the chute door other things would be showing up like frost everywhere inside freezer compartment. I will try to show you a photo in a moment after sizing it down. Thanks, Sea Breeze

Easiest way to thaw out a possible frozen water reservoir in my GE side by side fridge?

Hair dryer is the easiest way to thaw. To find cause: Remove lower grill and disconnect the water line going through the freezer2_bing.gif door hinge. Usually it is a push lock fitting, which requires you to push the ring2_bing.gif on the end of the fitting toward the center of the fitting while pulling (not hard) on the plastic tube. Now place a pan under the separated plastic hose and try the water dispenser. If water comes out, your problem is a frozen water line in the freezer door. A warmer freezer temp may help, or you can order and install a WR49X10173 water tube heater2_bing.gif. (the heater may take 24 hours to thaw the line, but I have used it successfully several times. Cost about $50) If no water comes out the separated tube when you try to dispense water, reconnect the tube at the hinge by pushing the plastic line back into the fitting. Now, at the back of the refrig., disconnect the water line going from the water valve to the fresh foods compartment. Try to dispense water. No water at valve outlet = bad valve. Water dispensed from valve now = frozen water filter2_bing.gif or water line at back bottom of fresh foods compartment. (make sure you disconnect the right tube. If in doubt, disconnect them both, just get them back correctly so your icemaker continues to work) Send me additional comments if needed. Don't rate before you try all the steps.

If water filter or water line/ reservoir is frozen, thaw with a hair dryer. If reservoir is frozen, check to make sure there is no frost on back wall of inside freezer, preventing normal air flow, allowing cold air to enter fresh foods compartment through return air vent at lower back of fresh foods compartment, resulting in freezing of water line / reservoir and possibly food in bottom bin.

Problems with fridge

Hi: When this happens it means that there is frost built up in the back of the refrigerator. You are having an issue with the defrost heater or the defrost timer. There is an off chance the refrigerator's freezer is over packed with food and there is no circulation. If you're handy empty the fridge and take a hair dryer to the back wall to melt away the frost from behind. Look at the heater; It will be at the bottom of the freezer on the back wall. A glass tube with a wire coil running through it. If the coil is broken, replace it. If not you will be looking at a defrost timer. Usually on a circuit board and expensive. Good Luck, Jeff
