You can create a Windows password recovery disk to reset your password. Follow this 5 easy steps:

2. Run the software and create windows password reset disk by follow the instructions.

3. Eject the created CD/DVD and insert it into the locked computer.

You can follow these steps.
Method 1: Reboot your machine. Press F8 before the Windows boot screen appears. You will be be prompted with a boot options menu.Select the Start Windows in Safe Mode option. Click through several self- explanatory screens until your reach the familiar 'Welcome' screen. Find the icon for the Administrator user. If the default settings of your system haven't been changed, there should be no password for this account. Login as the admin. And last,go to control panel, click user account, change the password.
Method 2:It that doesn't help, the best and efficient way is using a third party tool like windows password key which considered as the best tool to reset local administrator and user passwords on any Windows system.

Wowo surprised no one knows this....... all you need to do is download a copy of ERD COMMANDER (no longer sold in stores) you can unlock any password with the locksmith tool. find the program in torrent downloads, download it with UTORRENT, burn the .ISO image to a cd or dvd as a live boot disc, insert disc into computer, wait as ERD COMMANDER loads a windows xp like gui, then select the start menu - locksmith. this will open the locksmith tool select a user profile form there just type in your new password for the user name you selected you may want to reset the password 2 - 3 times before rebooting so it sets into your O/S. Then remove the erd commander disc and boot into windows with your new password and viola! your in <!-- from fixya rte -->

You can't sign in with blank password, right?

If windows XP is installed, you can try to reset the password by using the steps described with the following document if you have a password reset disk created or you can get an administrator user from the network administrator or you can remember one of the administrator account details on your computer. Otherwise you may need to reinstall Windows XP.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/321305

For other Windows Operating System, basically the same steps.
If you've forgotten your Windows password and you're on a domain, you should contact your system administrator to reset your password. If you're not on a domain, you can reset your password by using a password reset disk or by using an administrator account.
If you forget the administrator password and don't have a password reset disk or another administrator account, you won't be able to reset the password. If there are no other user accounts on the computer, you won't be able to log on to Windows and will need to re-install Windows.

You can see the details on the following document.

One of the options you have is to login as an Administrator. There is an account called "Administrator" without the quotes that by default as no password set unless this was changed by you. Use that as the username and leave the password blank. You then now have access to your PC.

When turning on laptop its asking for a password.didn't set 1

new computers recommend an administrator password so you can set it up. The password would be one that you want to put in. So just use one that you will remember and it will then ask you to confirm the password that you entered. Remember to write your chosen password down somewhere in case you forget it at a later date. For example if oyu ever have to restore your computer to factory default settings it will ask you for the password that you created here. So enter anything as long as you remember what it is. Lots of people just put the word admin for their password because it is easy to remember. But it is up to you.

Resetting the password

There are two places when you may be asked for a password - can you please clarify which one it is.
  1. The BIOS password which will ask you for a password BEFORE you see the Windows loading screen
  2. The Windows password, which will ask you for the password after the computer has started, but before you can see your desktop.
There is a reasonably easy solution for both of these.
