On Norstar 7316 phone, what is the feature code to program in for "voicemail" on our button #31 rather than using manual method of "feature 986 and then entering the mailbox number?"

  • boggled23 Apr 21, 2008

the problem is that i don't know and can't find a 2 digit feature code for voicemail. I know how to program it i just don't have the code.

  • boggled23 Apr 21, 2008

981 is for accessing your own mailbox....but by putting in feature 986 according to your instructions, the receptionist could transfer calls to voicemail. Thanks!

Inactive feature message displayed when we try to access any features on our M7310 phones. This occurred after a power outage.

Dear customer..here is the solution

Sometimes when you put a new (or alternate) voicemail system on a Norstar switch, The feature codes that accessed the old system stay in the KSU memory. If this is the case all of your feature codes will appear inactive even if the voicemail system is operating correctly.
To fix this issue you need to run an External Feature test (XFtest) to identify and remove the leftover codes from your KSU memory. You must have a programming set to access this menu (M7310, M7324, T7316).
Power down the Voicemail unit. Remove connection to voicemail ports from KSU.
1. Press [Feature] **938378 (XFtest). The password will be 266344 (Config).
2. Your display will read Feat code: and you will have options First and Exit.
3. Press First. The first stored feature code will appear, and you will have options Test, Back, and Next.
4. Press Test. Your options will read Remove and OK. Press Remove.
5. Once the feature code is removed, press Next to go to the next code.
6. Do this with all codes until your display reads None Registered
7. Release
Restore connections to the voicemail ports from the KSU. Power the system back up.
The feature codes will be restored to the correct defaults with the completion of the voicemail power-up cycle.

When I press "Feature 981"

The inactive feature response means that the phone system and the voicemail are not communicating with each other. I would first check that the voicemail is powered on. If it does have power, I would reboot it by unplugging it for a minute and then plugging it back in(startup can take 15 minutes).StarTalk, Flash, and NAM are some of the names of the voicemail units for small to medium size Norstar phone systems. Occasionally, both the phone system and voicemail need to be rebooted to allow the two to sync up and "see" each other. Occasionally the Norstar voicemails go bad where they will not power up or after powering up they cannot complete the boot up process or after powering on and booting up they will not answer when called. If your unit will not work after trying to reboot a few times, I would recommend you consider having the unit repaired before replacing it. If you need advice on where to send for repair, send a comment and I will help.

Our voicemail transfer button will not work for oneparticular phone.

More than likely although the button is marked as a transfer its not programmed as a transfer button. To see how its programmed press feature *0 (button inquiry) and press the button marked transfer. To re-program the button press feature *3, press the button marked transfer, and press feature 70. that willchange the program on that button.
