Dvd transfer Hi I have converted my dvd's to avi to put on my archos 504 using a programme called cucusoft. it converts the file to about 1.25gb but when i transfer it to the archos it loses about 25mins from the end of the film, any ideas please

check your software....also sometimes you have to disable other burning software you have, seems the software is fighting among themselves, antivirus sometimes interferes, check Burnworld .com

I would download virtualdub (free), install a divx convertor (free to some level), and input your original file in virtualdub (file-open file), check the video tab from VDUB, click compression, select divx, and save the file as an .avi file on harddisk of yr computer. If finished, check this avi file with a media player (winamp or so), see if it plays correctly, then transfer the file to your Archos. This will work.

I believe, when you converted, a stray codec was used for audio)

why not just burn the AVIs themselves?

The archos will only play M-peg 4 type files unless you buy on of the plug ins, so the way round it is to crack a dvd using "dvd shrink" this will get round the copy protection then convert the cracked dvd to m-peg 4 im using "any video converter" tese programs can be downloaded free on the net. not sure if this is the easiest way but it works

I have put plenty of DVDs onto my Archos, but I use the optional cradle which connect to the TV as well as DVD players. You simply connect the DVD player onto it and play your dvd, which switching on the Recorder function on your unit.

Alternatively, can you convert the DVD onto your PC and then transfer onto the Archos in normal fashion, or is this what you are saying you tried to do already?

please check what is your firmware version, the latest one is 1.6.23. If it is lower please upodate it by downloading the file from archos website. Maybe it would help
