Insert the flash drive in a USB slot and see what drive letter gets assigned to it. Right click on the new drive letter and select format from the drop down menu. Follow the directions on the next screen to format the drive.
You don't need to install any drivers for it, windows should detect new hardware and install the drivers that it already has for it. If your system isn't detecting new hardware when your plugging it in, then you might have an issue with your USB ports on your motherboard. If thats the case then go ahead and try hooking up like a USB keyboard or USB mouse. If it recognizes those then you know your ports are fine.
If your ports are fine and your USB firefly drive isn't being recognized, then your USB firefly drive is bad.
Your old Toshiba laptop most likely does not have a firefly port.
The only way to use your firefly device on the Toshibe is to purchase a firefly PCMCIA adapter card and plug it into the Toshiba's PCMCIA slot and install the card driver.

Open Wordpad, click File-->Save As; type in your desired name for the file and click the pull down arrow near "Save in:". Select the appropriate Drive (G/D,E or whatever) that is your Firefly. Click save. The file should now be saved as a Rich Text Formatted document on your Firefly. You can save it as a Text Document as well under the "Save as type:" option. Good Luck!
If it says that the files are probably gone, sorry. Try using it on a different system, if it says the same thing they are definitely gone. Good luck I hope it works on a different system.
do you hear the USB hardware installation tones from windows when you plug in the the drive? If so then you are know the USB port is working. If you do not..try other USB ports. If you hear the noise...Right click on My Computer and click on Manage. Click on Storage and then Disk Management...see if you are having a conflict of drive mappings (i.e. F:/ or E:/)..you can relable the drive letters by right clicking on the drive in the right pane and selecting Change Drive Letter.
What operating system are you using? Should work with XP and Vista. Go to windows explorer and click on C drive, click photos folder, select required photo, click and drag icon to the Firefly icon and release mouse button. File should be copied to jump drive.
