When we turn the tv on it will stay about 5 to 10 minutes then the screen will go off and the sound will be off the power button is still on. at one time we could turn it off with the remote and it would come back on now we have to turn off and wait several minutes or longer. when the power button is and the screen is black we can use the remote and turn the channel button and when we finally get the tv back on we will be on the channels or channel that we turned to according to how many times we hit the button. I have checked the timer and it is set to off. i have even unplugged the tv from the electrical outlet to see if that would reset it but that has not helped

Considering this is a costly set I'd advise taking it to a repair shop for service

Sounds like bad power supply capacitors, simply fix if you have electronics repair skills.

Resetting the TV
If the buttons on the remote AND the buttons on the TV case do not work (channels do not change and you cannot open or navigate the menu), the TV has stopped responding. Reset the TV as follows:

Some TVs have a reset button. If available and accessible, try using the reset buttons before using the steps below. Using the reset buttons can save time.
1. Unplug the TV power cord from the power outlet.
2. Unplug any connected devices (DVD, Set-top boxes, etc...)
3. Press and hold the TV power button for five seconds.
4. Plug the TV power cord back into the power outlet and turn on the TV.
5. Open the on-screen menu to confirm that the TV is responding again.
6. Turn off the TV and reconnect the devices.
7. Turn on the TV.

I have the same tv and it did the same thing. I replaced my lamp and it corrected the problem.

All symptoms in your TV shows that you need to replace its Lamp as it has been consumed its life hours and TV requires new lamp. Lamp can be obtained from Sony Website. Price is $200, Hope this info will help you to enjoy your Sony TV in coming days.

Unplug it from the wall, wait 2 minutes and plug it back in. if problem still exists, its probably the main pcb.

Sounds like the CRTs are going into protective blanking due to the vertical output ic needing to be resolderd. Try resoldering the vertical IC that may possibly fix the issue.

Comment by Guest, posted on Oct 25, 2008My Aquos has the same problem. I'm not sure how I discovered this, but when I lean the TV forward and hit the power button it will turn on every time. If the screen blacks out and I don't lean it forward when I hit the power button, the screen will just remain blank. It is very weird, but at least repeatable.

Try a "hard reset"===unplug AC for a long time, like overnight.Let me know if there is any change.
