My DVR 50 has been back to the manufacturers several times and still has the same fault. The sound is slightly distorted even on dvd playback, but even more prominent when viewing tv. I want to buy a new Jamo system but want to be sure the same problem won't re-occur.

try uninstalling the audio drivers completely, restart and re-install them

Did you try a disc cleaner? Maybe the lens is just dirty.

shut down tv/dig box/dvd. unplug and then leave a little (cuppa time)
replug .then start up dig box then tv then dvd.sounds like in need of "reboot"

Try a DV tape cleaner first. If that doesn't work, see what it would take to get the audio heads realigned. Any camera store can do that for you.

What format are you recording in?If the recorder is set for DVD +R, and your playback machine won't read the disc, you may need to record on a DVD-R, or a DVD +-R. Or vice-versa. Some DVDRW discs will record on one machine and won't play on another. The media are incompatible. Another problem - if you are copying a copy-protected disc, it might not play back either. Are you sure you are finalizing the disc? This process takes 4-5 minutes and requires two or three responses sometime.

have the same problem. DVD's play back with sound OK, but the tuner has no sound. any advice?

This fault would only occur on c.d play back. The sound would gradually start to distort, until all that could be heard was complete distortion. This fault was intermittent and would occur whenever it felt like
Believe it or not,this fault was cured by replacing the optical unit

your tape guides are out of calibration on all your pre - recorded tapes , or they are out of adjustment ( maybe even loose ) now ; - - put your camcorder close , next to your ear ? and . . . listen ! to a new tape in play mode - if you hear a fluttering sound like a deck of cards being shuffled softly , the camera is damaging all your tapes and needs alignment ;

how to play thm films on computer

I would certainly take the unit back cause that noise could be the tracking or focus coils making that noise as they are being overdriver. This could cause the unit to fail prematurly. Its not an adjustment that you can do your self, it takes special equipment and disc
