Based on the serial number provided, this MAGICCHEF product was manufactured August 1997.

As it is brand new you should not be fiddling with it as it is likely to invalidate the warranty - if it doesn't work as it should you should immediately call the supplier, which is who your contract is with.

Could be the manufacturer forgot to add lubricant and the compressor seized or perhaps the motor start winding is damaged - whatever the problem is, it shouldn't be yours.

It might not matter when it was made. Warranty is from date of purchase so you will probably need a receipt.

Generally anything over a .5 like 10.5 10.7 or 12.6 would be marketed as the next size up.

Why do you think your Magic Chef is still working after 20 years? Your unit was manufactured with reliable cast steel components.
Do you want to purchase a new unit with more efficiency with components manufactured with plastic and cast ceramic. If you do decide to purchase a more efficient unit, do not discard your well build Magic Chef. When the new unit fails after 5 years, you will always have the older well built unit.

The Magic Chef brand was a product of the Maytag company and Maytag was bought by Whirlpool about 5 years ago so the Magic Chef brand went away when Whirlpool took over

If it is 8 months old it probably is under warranty call magic chef they will usually send someone out. Have your purchase stub ready or they can go by the manufacture date but that might be over a year.

Call 888-775-0202 Magic chef they will replace the part free of charge even if its not longer under warranty

Incidents/Injuries: Maytag has received 41 reports of refrigerator relay ignition, including 16 reports of property damage ranging from smoke damage to extensive kitchen damage.
Description: The recall includes certain Maytag®, Jenn-Air®, Amana®, Admiral®, Magic Chef®, Performa by Maytag® and Crosley® brand side by side and top freezer refrigerators. The affected refrigerators were manufactured in black, bisque, white and stainless steel. They have model and serial numbers printed on a label located on the top middle or left upper side of the refrigerator liner and have the following model and serial number combinations:

Have the same problem with my 3 year old bar fridge. I could hear a clicking sound like it was trying to come on. Unplugged it and bought a new one. I figure the cost to repair a $100 bar fridge may not be worth it. They will charge you to come out and then charge you for the parts. For a little over $100 I bought a new one.
On the new fridge, the freezer gets colder than the fridge part..but luckily for me, it is still under warranty (Manufacturer's). I'll call for a look see-who knows maybe that guy can tell me what's wrong with the other one, too. ;-)
