Designer 1: upper thread shredding while embroidering

HI, I hope someone can help with this problem. I have had my machine about 1.5 years and in Dec started having trouble with it in the embroidery mode. The upper thread is being shredded until it breaks. I had the machine cleaned and serviced in Jan thinking that would help but the problem persists. I've re-threaded using every possible configuration, changed needles, changed types and brands of needles, changed stichplates, bobbin thread, speed... everything I can think of. I am using Sulky thread, it is new and the problem persists with any color I use. I do not have the problem when sewing, only embroidering.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have a similar problem while embroidering. My Designer 1 keeps beeping that the thread is broken when it isn't and at times the thread starts to shred. I haven taken it into three different repair shops and none of them are competent. Unfortunately, they are the only ones around here. I've tried calling Husqvarna viking in Ohio and all they say is to box it up and ship it to them. I am not going to ship a $5,000.00 sewing machine anywhere. One repair place here said it is caused by the "check spring sensor" and needs replacing. I am so frustrated with this machine and would not buy another Husqvarna. I hear very good things about the Baby Lock Elegante so if you are thinking about a new machine - stay away from any Husqvarna Viking!

I too, have the same problem withmy Designer 1. I just bought ISACORD brand polyester embroidery thread to hopefully solve this problem, but I believe it must be a tension problem. I have a "date" with the repair lady on Friday (11/22/08) and if it gets repaired I will re-post what the problem was. Still love the machine WHEN IT SEWS!!

My "fetcher upper threader" 68009116 fell out of my Designer Epic sewing machine. Where does it go?

I found diagrams of the Designer Diamond Epic here: https://www.europdistri.fr/download/vues/machv/designerepic.pdf . The Fetcher Upper Thread is part 14 on diagram K (page 22). This is the diagram with the stepper motor and thread cutter sensor. However, the fetcher upper thread is described as a "drop-in" part and the diagram isn't clear. I suspect this section of the Designer Epic is similar to that of the Designer Diamond Epic. However, you may need to take the machine to a good Husqvarna Viking sewing machine repair person.

I hope this helps a bit.

Brother pe770 bobbin thread is showing on top of fabric.

First check threading. If it is done properly, then it's probably because it is dirty between the lower tension blade and the bobbin case body. Remove this blade, clean, reassemble and it shoud work.

I have a designer 1. recently when i go to embroider, it starts fine then just goes hay wire and put teh embroider all over the place- not like the pattern. Sound to me like the emb. unit? thanks kathy

Hi Kathy, I'm sorry your Designer 1 is not feeling well.8*( It sounds like to me you need to get your embroidery unit re-calibrated by your local technician. When was the last time you had your machine serviced? Are the designs you are trying to embroider stock designs or your own designs? Have you tried resetting your machine by turning it off and back on again and let the machine calibrate again? (Take the hoop off before you do this and put it back on after you have selected your design) and try it again. Also how old is your machine? They had a recall on Des 1 purchased between 1999-2004 for a power supply problem. The serial # and recall info is on the Viking website at- www.husqvarnaviking.com. Also do you have enough clearance around your machine where the hoop is not hitting anything while it's embroidering that will throw it of big time! Hope something here helps you! If I can help you further you can also email me at- [email protected] Happy Sewing!! Kathy ( from 1 Kathy to another)

Can not adjust the upper thread tension tight

If you are adjusting the upper tension on your machine and yet there is no difference to the sewing, it seems to me that maybe your upper thread is not in the tension disks correctly. Re-thread taking care to make sure the threads bed down into the tension disks. I pull off about 2 foot of thread from the spool and put my right-hand finger on the thread very close to the spool (the idea is to hold it down so it doesn't move) then use my left hand to take the thread through the thread run. Once I get close to the needle, I tug the thread a little and you can hear/feel it go into the tension disk.

Sometimes it looks like the top thread is the problem, but in fact it is the bobbin which is at fault. Re-insert your bobbin again taking care to click it into its tension slot. If you are still getting bad results, try loosening off the bobbin tension. Use a tiny screwdriver to turn the tension screw (the one just on the outside of the tension slot). Turn it no more than 1/5th of a circle at a time (to the right to tighten, to the left to loosen) then put bobbin back in and test. You should not need to adjust it more than two or at most three times. If you do, something is seriously wrong with your machine's tensions and it needs to see the Sewing Machine Doctor.

Husqvarna Viking Designer 1 keeps breaking needles

The threading may be out of the channels. Rethread. Put in a fresh needle. Make sure you are using an embroidery needle and a new one for each new project. You can't use YLI bobbin thread. It stinks. If all this doesn't help, take it in to be checked These work great when there is not thread stuck in the bobbin case and it is threaded properly. If all is well, it will go like gangbusters.
