Right, camcorder does not show you live image to record it but it shows on-screen display icons like tape remaining info, battery info etc.
If that is the symptom then it is ccd iamger chip failure problem and ccd imager chip will be replaced to get live view in camera mode for recording.
Please take camcorder to your local camera repair shop for ccd imager chip replacement to fix the issue.

NO it is NOT showing me anything. the screen is BLACK. it is NOT showing me display icons like tape remaining info, battery info etc. that you mentioned.
i am not sure what extra information you want me to give, the probelm might me very minor but i am not able to understand.
OK, just delete ccd imager chip failure information.
Your update changed the problem scenario, there is connecting flexible ribbon wire between lcd circuit board and camcorder main circuit board, this wire is broken that is why lcd board is not getting power/ signal from camera main board and its black/ blank.
Connecting flexible ribbon wire will be replaced to solve the issue. Local camera repair shop will do the job for you.

I have one silly question. i have this big block of battory attached to the camera with wire going from battery to camcorder. i have to leave it as is right? And this wire you are talking about i do not see it but may be its connected internally! how much that would cost? any idea?
Yes, that wire is connected internally and camera will take apart to replace it.
It will cost you approx $40 plus labor.
