Hi there,

If your grips have closed ends, cut a section off so you have plenty of grip left, but a hole where the bar ends can go through. Follow below procedure with the bar ends.

Bar ends are either have a screw or allen key head. Tap them into the ends of the bars with a rubber mallet. Tighten up the screw/bolt as this will make them expand keeping them inside the bars.

If you need to remove the grips:

Get some hairspray and lift the edge of the handlebar grips up, spray down until the grip is slippy and comes off. (Only use hairspray though, as once it is slippy, it will be very sticky in a minute so it will help when you replace it. Repeat for the other grip. Clean up the bars where the grips were. Refit the grips with more hairspray inside the grip and a little on the bars. Slide them on and leave for a good 6 hours so they stick.

Hope this helps mate, please vote for me :)

Nobody can ID most bikes by serial number alone, and yours in not one of the exceptions. All we can tell you is it's likely made in 2002. See my tip for more info:

How do I connect the brake cable to the handle bars on Mongooose bmx scan R60

Brake cables have a knob on the end of them, that knob fits into the brake lever. A great web site for more information is "Sheltonbrown.com". To install the cable ends, brakes must be released at the other end. The top of the cable at the brake should have a disconnect on it. That frees up the cable, so iut can be connected.

When was the first BMX bike invented?

Hard to put an exact date on it because BMX evolved from kid's mimmicking their motocross heroes on dirt hills using 20" bikes (typically Schwinn Stingrays).

The first bicycle made specifically to mimmick the motocross riders that early BMX riders were mimmicking was the Yamaha Moto-Bike in 1973.

BMX became "official" in 1974 when George E. Esser founded the NBL, which officially sanctioned BMX races.

The first official BMX bike (bike made specifically for the sport of BMX), with the frame design as we know it today, was in late 1974 with the introduction of the Redline Squareback.

I am looking for bike that is a cross between a bmx bike and a mountain bike, ive seen the mongoose ritual series any other suggestions ?

Dude it basically is just a hardtail mountain bike shrunk down with a CroMo frame instead of the standard Alum frames everyone else uses. What is it that you're looking for as all bike makers have something very similar to this, I just bought my son a GT that looks almost identical.

What is the difference between a normal bike and a bmx bike?

A BMX is more like a piece of sports equipment, it's mostly ridden standing up and not really used for transportation. A normal bike can be ridden while seated and isn't good for tricks and jumps.

We have bought a new bmx for ouf our son. we have had to build it ourseves but dont know how to set up the brakes. can you help.they are normal pad brakes.

Set the height of the pads and turn them so they line up with the rim. Next squeeze them tight against the rim with your fingers and then pull the lower end of the cable through to take up slack and tighten the cable clamp nut. Fine adjustment can be made at the handle bars.
