I bought a Generac 17kw with automatic transfer switch. I would like to use a 200 Amp manual throw transfer switch. The generator came with a pre wired sealtite pig tale and junction box. Inside the junction box are 3 #6 wires for L1, L2, and natural, plus a 3 wire pin connector and a 2 wire pin connector. How do I wire one of these pin connectors to start the generator motor when the utility power goes out and turn the generator motor off when the utility power comes back on?? Thanks, -Steve

If you are using a Manual transfer switch, then you should manually operate the system. Why don't you use the switch it came with? Why would you use a 200a manual transfer switch on a 17kw generator? The idea is to move your critical circuits into the transfer switch panel. Then it would operate in auto.

Why wont my transfer switch change back to utilities position when the power is restored?

It depends on the brand of switch and generator. A Generac has its brains in the generator control board, others in the switch, what brand of switch please?

I have a 17kw generac generator that will run

I have the 18KW model and was told that most alarms relate to a low battery. Make sure the battery charger in the Transfer Switch is properly feeding the battery or hook up a mobil battery charger to the battery and see if the alarm goes away. Good Luck.

Sounds like the electritian wired something wrong. Control wiring for that generator should be:
N1 and N2 = 240 vac utility input
Wire 0 = ground
Wire 194 (15B) = + battery
wire 23 = transfer signal
