Hi

Disconnect your appliance from its power source before you start any troubleshooting or repair work. Use caution when working inside any appliance.
Plug something else into the same outlet. If it works, you know you have power to the Dehumidifier. If it doesn't work, you’ll need to check for any blown fuses or tripped circuit breakers. If you have power, it could be one of several problems that are keeping it from running.
Another reason that the dehumidifier won't turn on may be that the humidity level you set your unit for has been reached. If you need or desire a lower level of humidity, adjust the humidistat to reflect this.
Many dehumidifiers have a safety device which senses when the reservoir is full. The tank either presses against a switch, or there may be a sensor connected to the tank that triggers a switch when the tank is full. This is to prevent any water damage to your property. Always remember water and electricity does not mix well. Empty the tank. This should solve the problem if the tank was full. If you empty it, and the unit still doesn't run, look around the tank to see if there's a switch or other device that controls the dehumidifier. Look for a bucket switch. You may be able to throw a switch by hand.

Two things are needed for a dehumidifier to work optimally:
Ambient Temperature (room temperature) must be above 65 degrees Fahrenheit.
Relative Humidity in the room above 45 %.
If the filter is clean and the fan and compressor is running and the humidity is above 45% the likely failure is in the sealed system. It could have a bad compressor, Freon leak, bad reversing valve or a restriction.
Most probably the dehumidifier is low on Freon and the compressor is not kicking in, or the fan is not working thus no air movement.

Let us know if you have something more to know else accept the suggestion.

Basement smells musty, fan won't stay on continuous

Barbara, are you running the unit in a continuous mode (i.e Using a hose to drain the unit)? Or is the water draining into the water collection bucket?

If you are not using a hose for continual drainage, the fan will not run constantly. It requires that, for continual operation.

Also, you may have the humidity extraction level set to high. Lower it to 35%. Also, remove and check the air intake filter, as it may need cleaning.

Dehumidifiers that are not Low Temp models have a difficult time operating in basement applications. Because the air temp at floor level is colder than at shoulder level. At temperatures between 40 & 60 degree F, regular dehumidifiers struggle to keep up. Raising it up off the flow on to a sturdy table, counter top, etc that can handle the weight of the unit, plus a full bucket of water can really help.

I hope this was of assistance and thanks for choosing FixYa.

Product is about 6 years old. Used in basement. Worked great until this year. Now will run continuously but collect little water. What type of service do I need? This is a 65 pint per day Whirlpool.

There is some service that you can do ... Clean the filter and the cooling coils, regularly. Check the humidity level that you have the unit set on. It may be set to low and there's just not that much humidity in the air at this time, for it to collect. From what you said, it sounds like you may have it set on continuous cycle which could account for the lack of a lot of water in the bucket. In continuous run, the fan stays ON all the time. It's supposed to do that, so that the air is constantly moving and the sensor only turns the compressor ON, if it senses a humidity level 5% higher than what you have it set for. Try running the unit on a 1 or 2 hour cycle (if your model will do that) rather than continuous cycle.

Hope this helped you troubleshoot and solve the problem. Please let me know. Thanks.

My dehumidifier is running but not collecting any water. I have cleaned the filter and it still wont collect water. Is it broken?

Hi,

First, make sure the humidistat isn't set too high by adjusting it to the lowest humidity setting and running it again. Next, test the dehumidifier by placing it in a closed bathroom with a hot shower running. If you don't see water collecting in the unit after several minutes, turn the unit off and clean all dehumidifier filters and coils. If, after adjusting the settings and cleaning the unit, you still don't see water collecting, you may have a refrigeration issue. This situation will have to be addressed by a qualified technician.

Good luck.

Attached a pump to drain collected water. The

the water should still collect into the tank. the dehumidifier had a float switch that shut the unit off when the tank is full. In turn it should have a second switch, probably a float switch that turns the pump on and off so that the pump doesnt continue to run when there is no moisture in the tank

The humidifier runs but is not collecting water... so humidity level never drops.

My brand new frigidaire 50 liter dehumidifier has been on for two days and has not collected water from my damp basement. It is on the factory settings: high fan and "CO" (continuous).

Fan runs, no water collected

It appears that these units have a history of defectiveness. I bought one in late 2010 and it pooped early 2012. If the model is still made, buy a new one, return the defective one in the new unit's packing materials for a refund. Or keep the second (new) unit as a back-up, because the new (first) one may just fail again a short while later.

Runs all the time, not collecting water

I don't know your particular unit, but my guess is that the compressor is bad. If it is old, it may not be worth fixing.
