Try using a different monitor cord, or changing monitors. You need to figure out if it's the PC or the Monitor that has gone bad.

try starting the machine in safe mode...Turn the PC completely off then after you turn it on, keep pressing the F8 key (tapping it) and see if an advanced menu will pop up. Making sure that it's not something in your startup that is corrupt. If it starts fine then, you should run a program to see if you might have a virus...I use Malwarebytes...it's free and usually finds malicious activity on your PC.

Hp monitor keeps going to sleep. How do I stop it from doing this?

Great reply from our Computer Guru Larry. Let's put it down here, because it is now solved :>)

  • all monitors made for 2 decades to that , and buy law in USA> called Energy Star compliance.
NO PC told nor OS told w can not guess PC nor what OS you run. not ever.
make and model PC not told nor if using VGA/DVI/HDMI or DP connections.
wow 14 years and finally fails. (amazing luck there and 99% of 2007 monitors are now dead, 8hr/day ,365.

the answer box 1 , is you can not do that. in the monitor. by law. hard coded. here see why./?
see sleep loop inside MON firmware, yes there it is .https://pcdied.com/BIOS/e173flow1.jpg

All monitors go to sleep for 2 reasons, PC went dead (by law)
or PC actual is in sleep mode.

all PC sold are coded (settings) to do that by law, OOBE (out of the box experience) by law.
so if using windows are you?
yes, then click CP control panel, the power setting an turn off sleep to the MON

or learn to google?? or ask any kid ,they know for sure.

windows 10 (but gee 2007 is XP or VistA)
google how to turn off sleep in windows.

that power menu , control every thing in the PC that can sleep.
USB ports, Nic cards, Monitor GPU ports , HDD and more, and all your choice on 2nd day owned.

on desk top we just end sleep by hitting space bar (easy close wide key) or wiggle the mouse.
or if set right in same place, the power button ends sleep pushed fast.

on some old PCs, letting USB sleep, makes mouse and keyboard dead. (painful)
    mouse usb, fails. to unsleep
in device manager,, go to mouse
then right click properties on it.
tab power management , allow this device to wake the computes.

and do not allow hibernate mode, in power settings, it things can get ugly fast
now the ELEMENT in the room.

the PC came with XP I bet, 90% did and if upgraded and the PC maker does not allow,

    w7 or w8 or w10 at all
then the drivers are bad. and bad drivers LOVE TO FAIL FOR Sleep.

    NO PC told
    no OS told

    hp 27,is what?
    nada

    see why here
    https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/plp/access...

the rear of a MON shows a tag with true model
a desktop has 6 sides, one side has the tag, even bottom side.
    not told that.
the monitor tag will show model and p/n or sku.# and nnnnnnnn#ABA
the ABA is the true product number that also shows and tells options in it DAY1 new.
like how many ports there are and what kinds of ports. and more.
example (sorry googe will not let me see one year of 2007 monitors or Id guess better (grin)

HP 27" 3UA74AA#ABA (LED,) so is newer, your is CCFL lamps, 2007 most are.

    PC 2007 , HP Compaq dc7800???
    W2007 MONITOR?

I never saw a 27" LCD monitor in 2007 so... and google fails me to find it.

100s of 27" HP monitors, yours not told, nor cable type used (VGA):?

Why does my HP vs17 monitor screen keep going to blank black screen like it turned off but did'nt.....blue power button light is still on? Everything is running but no picture.....keeps happening everytime...

this old monitor has 2 issues.
1: it has CCFL tubes that love to burn out (backlamps)
most this old are long go, yell, dim.,blinking or DEAD.
2: push the menu button on front of mon. turn off power saver.

3: if the PC goes to sleep, or hibernete mode (parked)
then that is 100% normal
if you dont like feature then go to windows control panel
click power, ICON and turn off all monitor sleep /hibernate modes.

that assumes windows, no OS stated.

if the lamps are dead,
use flash light pointed to sceen, see data. ? bingo for bad CCFT tubes.
as seen here

HP w1907 LCD Monitor goes to sleep by displaying a "monitor is going to sleep"error after turning on the computer and doesnt display anything. It works intermittently, in that, if the computer has been...

so if you test the monitor on a known good PC it does what?
fails, then its the monitor
works then its the failing PC

all old HP monitors pre 2010 many had a sleep timer
so push the menu key on the monitor
then look for sleep timer and turn it off,
the monitor defaults to that mode, so dont push reset monitor or bam back to sleep mode it goes. so turn it off again.
all this is in the manual, lost yours, wana read it first?

read page 4.7 see that? (osd +advanced +) power saver OFF

https://www.manualslib.com/manual/418165/Hp-W1907-19-Lcd-Monitor.html?page=25#manual

if that fails to fix it (tested on 2 PC ) the PC1 is bad.
that be a whole other WALL OF TEXt, ask.

Monitor going to sleep problem

  • Hi, The Monitor as well the Computer have "Power Saving Modes," [Sleep, ScreenSavers, and Hibernation]; so what you want to do is "Change the way the Computer / Monitor Sleeps!" From the Desktop Screen, click on the "Start Button," next in the [Start Search Window], type: power. In the next [window] that opens, you should see, from your point of view; a "list" in the (left column) "Change when the computer sleep, the wording may be different, but it will be clear enough. Now all you have to do is change the way the Computer and Monitor "Sleep, or Turn-off." If the Monitor have its own "settings;" just find them by the [button on the monitor], and do the same thing as above; but I'm sure the computer will take care of both. If this solution to the problem was of help? Let me know by giving a "Helpful Rating", thanks, and have a "Great Memorial Day!"

My HPw1707 monitor keeps going to sleep and I have to turn off the computer to get the programs to open when I want to work on anything.

Are you saying that the monitor is going to sleep or the computer? If the computer goes to sleep I can understand not being able to get to your programs. This is a simple matter of turning off hybirnate in the power supply icon of your control panel. If the monitor is going to sleep there should be a menu with a timer for sleep time. Just change it to a much longer time or turn it off.

How do i stop the monitor going to standby or sleep while watchin movies every so often?

Vista: "Control Panel"-->"Power Options". On the left hand side you will see various options, you want the one labeled "Choose when to turn off the display". You will have 2 settings you can change, 1.Turn off the display and 2. Put the computer to sleep. For both of those options, change them to "Never".

XP: "Control Panel"-->"Power Options". There will be a setting for "Turn Off Monitor", change it to never.

Won't turn on... keeps "going to sleep"

Try another monitor on the computer, if it works properly then you know that the original monitor is the issue.

If the 2nd monitor gives you the same issue then you know its a problem with the computer. At that point, unseat and reseat the memory. Try another power supply. If the monitor still shows sleep mode then the motherboard in the computer is bad.

HP 2338H Monitor Goes into Sleep mode and I have to power comput

you meant w2238w , right, you left off the w?
circa 2006 monitor, 11 years old.?

if the monitor fails on 2 PC, the monitor is bad ! ok, do that...
then
push the monitor menu buttton, connected to a running PC.
if the OSD is dead, , (on screen display , menu button front of monitor)
that means the monitor is dead, CCFL tubes are bad.
cold cathod florescient laml tubes all day this old.
the menu button can be in lock mode, hold the button for 10 seconds, and it unlocks
then go in the OSD screens if they work,. and turn off the sleep timer.
this timer is marked in the OSD as power saver,. turn it off.
it is a time clocked feature, and a pain to use on modern PC.
your PC does sleep modes today and never us this timer, inside monitor (default is on, turn it off)
all that is on page32 in your manual,

Powersave problem

If you are using a desktop computer, chances are that you don't want the computer to go to sleep automatically. This is even more the case if you are running Vista in a virtual machine for testing purposes.
Disabling power management is simple and easy. First go to the start menu and click on the Control Panel.
Click on the System and Maintenance link

Then click on the Power Options link:

It will disable automatic sleep mode, but will still turn off display.\
You can click on change plan to disable.

If you are using XP than.

Open control pannel-> click on power option -> keep turn off monitor setting to never.
