If you have any clamp on amperage meters, you need to see what the amperage draw on the circuit is when it is running. This will tell you if something is wrong with the pump circuit. It could be anything from a bad capacitor to an impeller obstruction.

Press and hold: SPIN SPEED & SOIL LEVEL buttons--then press POWER button. Wait for door to lock.
Press the START button (6) times--this will fill the tub with hot water to the maximum setting when it stops filling.
Press the START button two more times--this will enable the tub to tumble. After 3 hours--turn "off" the washer. Turn the washer back "on". Select the shortest wash cycle (usually "quick wash") and press "START". This will rinse out the tub. This method of "TUB CLEAN" is *not* from a service manual but has been the best method for cleaning out LG washers more than a year into incorrect detergent usage.
After this--use the correct amount of "HE" detergent & perform a "TUB CLEAN" cycle every (4) months using the *tub clean* option on the control panel.
The metal button on the top of the tub is used to turn the tub on/off. the metal button you see in the middle of the tub above one of the jets is the low water sensor. the water has to be above that metal tab, you have to be in the tub and then touch the metal button on the top of the tub to turn it on. this system uses the electrical current from our bodies to complete the circuitry and turn it all on and off.
you have a bad motor - when a motor overheats there is a sensor inside the motor that will shut if down so as to not damage the windings and such.
once your tub has cooled down for 10 mins or so it will turn back on.
the fact that you can push the button multiple times just means that you are turning the air switch on the back of the motor on/off until you get to the point where the motor has cooled down and will turn back on.
if you do not push the air button after the tub shuts down and you finish your bath then when the pump cools down it will come back on because the air switch in the motor is latching i.e. it is either on or off. Since you left it in the on position the motor will come back on once the motor has cooled down.
Keep giving it a few kicks! When that happens to motors it usually means that it is on its way out, I'd milk it for as long as possible but start thinking about a new pump and motor.
