Microwave door will not latch closed

I have a microwave that is not working(H5470N0GB/03). The problem is that the door will not latch closed. Either the latching lever, or spring connected to the lever is broken, or the spring has simply popped off the lever.I am not sure how to get the outer section of the door off to check the latch mechanismlatch on the door. I can see no screws, so it may simply lever off, but I am not sure.Any advice please.

I just had this problem with a Samsung microwave/hood combo. I pried/popped the inside molding out with a screwdriver. The little lip that the spring attached to had broken. I drilled a hole in the center of the door latch, reattached the spring, replaced in door, replaced inside decorative molding, and fixed in 5 minutes. Thank goodness because it's such a pain to replace these units.

I just had the same problem, of the spring lip breaking. I'm so glad I found this solution. It worked like a charm!

The top latch on the door that activates the microwave broke off. Can we replace this ourselves, or do we need to call a technician to come dismantle the door & replace the latch?

Nancy,
Can you see the inside portion of the latch? If so, you might try getting some quick set plastic epoxy. This will require some patients and a steady hand. Mix epoxy, apply to both ends, reattach and hold for a long time! Min 5 min's. Understand, if you cant do this with out getting epoxy on the surrounding parts of the door you shouldn't attempt this. You will end up gluing the latch in place- still wont work. Otherwise call a tech. But unless it is a built in over the stove microwave, it may be cheaper to get a new one than call for service! My charge to come do such a repair would be about $100 plus part. Is it worth it?

I Have a Whirpool Microwave Oven Combo Model RMC305PDQ1 sometime when the oven is cooking the oven latch closed and we can;t open

Despite what the owner's manual says, you should not open a microwave door when it's cooking. You should press the Pause or Stop pad first. Otherwise, you will shorten the life of your door switches.
If you're ever unable to pen the door, then you have a problem with the door latch, spring, etc. that needs to be investigted and corrected.

Microwave oven door won't close.

The chances are that the plastic latch in the door is broken. What is the model of the microwave. Maybe we can find the correct service diagram to order and replace the damaged part.

It seems something holding the door to shut all the way the upper latch does not go in all the way.

The door does not close all the way and the latch is not supposed to go in all the way. If you are not getting any error messages, don't worry about it. Try the dollar bill test. Close the door on a dollar bill and then pull the dollar out. you should feel some resistance, if not the door is miss-aligned. Fixing the oven door should only be done by a factory certified tech because

The oven door provides three primary functions:
1. To protect the operator from the hot
convection airflow.
2. To protect the operator from exposure to
microwave energy.
3. To actuate the interlock switches.

Its work for 2 min and turns off and cool down and turns back on and work for another 2 min

Hello,

Make sure oven is plugged in properly.
Check that door closes completely and its latch is aligned.
Check that interlock switch in door works properly.
Check the power cord to make sure it is firmly plugged into the outlet, if the microwave is not working. If this is acceptable, check to make sure the door closes correctly. There should be a click and the door should not reopen without pushing a button or exerting at least a little energy to pull it from the latch.
Check the oven settings. Make sure the settings are set to 100 percent and the food should begin to cook properly.

Most importantly, check the control panel because it is possible that there is bridge on the control panel that is why it restart itself every 2 minutes.

Take care.
