How do you delete a thread of text messages on the htc hero smartphone?

With that many texts, it will take the phone some time to delete, especially if you are trying to delete the entire thread. You will need to be patient and let the phone work through them all. Think that if it takes 3-4 minutes to load, how much longer the phone may need to load and then delete.

Basically either clear all your messages and then try. If it still says the same message then you will have to clear applications or mulitmedia from your phone to free some more space. I suggest you delete some applications as normally multimedia is stored on your sd card.

When you go into your MMS app, you will be presented with a list of people you have texted and the number of texts with that thread (conversation). Long hold on the thread you want to delete and you will get a dialog box. One of those options is Delete, and then another dialog box that will ask you if want to delete the entire thread. Hit ok, but keep in mind that if it's a long thread, it may take a couple of minutes to delete. Please be patient with this.

Try to delete the messages individually also try where the message box is with all your threads tap & hold the thread your trying to erase and then a box should appear and one of the selections is delete this thread. If that method doesn't work do this:

go to Settings> Applications> Manage Applications> All (I don't know how it is exactly on the Hero as I am using Froyo you need to get the list of all applications.)> Messages> Now Tap: "Force Stop"> and now Tap: "Clear Data"

Using the last method will erase all your messages in all your threads, so if you have information you need in any of your threads be sure to write down what you need.

try to use a 3rd party sms app such as handent sms from the market. it is very customizable and should cure your freezing problem

Yes you can. Just go into the thread where that SMS you want to delete is located. Long hold on the message you want deleted, and the select "Delete message" from the command list.

open the back of the phone. take out the battery. You will see six hole for screws. The one to the right beside the battery should not be a screw. press it 2 or 3 times with something small. Reinsert battery it should show a reboot screen. I just tried it and all my data is still there. let me know if this works. seems to be a problem cropping up with several others as well.
