I cannot find any information in the limited instructions that came with the Polaroid a800 camera we purchased as to how to shoot video with it. I need help- this camera is a birthday present for my 10 year old daughter who wants to shoot some video.

Hard to answer with such limited information on your settings and what you're shooting but often it's because the camera settings are on Manual and not Auto. It could also be a setting in one of the other exposure options in your camera.
I don't know the particular setup of this model, but some of my Polaroid a800 cameras
actually have 2 triggers--1 main trigger which sets off the camera and
flash, and then a smaller trigger just around the main trigger that only
sets off the camera--no flash. So, look at the trigger and see if
there's a smaller trigger (that looks like part of the main release..
This happened with mine too. Mine is an a800 polaroid digital camera. i had some AAA batteries from an old remote control and they didnt have any juice left in them after 5 minutes. So i kept trying different AAA batteries and it wont even turn on!
