You have to know the conditions of repair when you purchased the unit. if you bought additional protection for that kind of damage, you should be able to get it repaired. but it should be written on the information you have with the equipment you bought. Normally, if it's not a "product defect" , there is a fee to get this repaired. By that I mean if the unit got dropped or hit etc..... then it is not usually considered normal wear and tear. Read the info that came with your agreement! Good luck!
the display screens can be purchased but good luck finding some one to install it just google it and buy 2 because often some of them dont work from the factory ooorrr you can have archos fix it wich may be cheaper and easyer about 25% of original cost and they will test it and make sure it works before sending it back or send you a new one the screen problem is not specific to archos its specific to that type of screen they have a half life of about 5 years but may die sooner under constant use or abuse and some die as soon as they are powered having archos replace it prevents you from having to buy multiple of them to find a good one samsung also uses the same type of screen but does not use the laminating or layering proces that archos uses to increase the durability and third party screens also dont have this eather so having archos do it will also ensure you get a laminated and layered set up that will last you a bit longer than one you might purchase after market and have some one put in for you
Depending on WHEN your tablet was purchased, you can send it back to Archos to be repaired. (via their website http://www.archos.com/support/). I have broken the pin off in mine TWICE since I got it last November and both times I sent it back to Archos to fix free of charge. They paid for shipping and repaired it for free even though it was MY FAULT! so far there were no questions asked! I have been very pleased with their customer service (even tho i have never talked to a real person they have handled the issue and I am extremely happy). there are 2 issies w/returning it however, 1. you LOSE ALL YORU DATA. they wipe it out. I tried doing a back up and then reloading it to my tablet when i got it back but haven't been able to figure out how to get it back on. 2. You will be w/out your tablet for about a month! :( Good luck!!!!!
You can do it yourself, but BE CAREFUL: buy just the same touchscreen, the one with the similar attributes (check your Technical Specifications of your device!). So... let's start: 1. open the cover (use a screwdriver) 2. get the LCD out 3. put the replacing screen in place 4, it's done (after you will screw back all screws!) A SIMILAR SCREEN for your Archos 101 is called Pixel Qi.
And here you have all technical details concerning your screen. REMEMBER: the replacement should meet THE SAME SPECIFICATIONS!!! http://www.touchinternational.com/downloads/supplierguides/101mulTI-touch-lcdspec.pdf
If you mean to connect your Archos to your Android device through Wi-Fi, than, yes, you can!
But, only if your android device supports the tethering feature.
For example if you have an Android 2.2 (Froyo) device than you go to Settings->>Wireless & networks->>Tethering & portable hotspot and tap "Portable Wi-Fi hotspot". From the Archos, go to the the Wi-Fi settings and connect to the network you've just created.
If you do not have the tethering option available, you should find out if your carrier or device manufacturer has an update for the device.
Hope it helps!
Can't exactly help you, but I'm in the same situation. I got a crack across the middle of the screen on my 43 while it was in my pocket. It seems like this might be a problem with the gen 8 tablets, but Archos is currently refusing to consider it defective.
