Over the past couple of weeks, the back of the fridge has started to frost over and as of today it is completely covered in frost. It still keeps its temperature of 4 degrees.

Its warm damp air getting into the fridge causing the frosting if it builds up to much the fridge will find it hard to keep things coold down and you will need to "de-frost" it,,to do this rap all your food up in a blanket to keep it cool them switch off the fridge and put a tub of boiling water in side it leave the door open the frost will soon fall away,,wip out the fridge with "by carb" and switch it back on for an hour or so before you put your cold food back in it

Had fridge a week and it keeps building up frost on the inside of the fridge at the back of it and thermostat is only on 2! Is this normal? I have already defrosted it once

if it is an old fridge , I suspect that the door seals are not in good condition allowing moist room air into the compartment to freeze on the wall
if it is new and under warranty call for a warranty check

Where is the evaporator fan motor? My Freezer and fridge would quit cooling/freezing. I took the back panel off in the freezer a week ago and the evaporator coils were completely frozen over with ice. I...

I do not believe the problem is the fan. sounds like the frig. is low on Freon this is what will cause the ice build up. you need to find the leak, you can do this by spraying soapy water on coil tubes & watch for bubbles. repair leak & recharge.

Would a faulty thermostate cause the coil to freeze. On my westinghouse fridge freezer?

Hi,

To answer your question, no, a faulty thermostat would not cause this to ice/frost up like this after 2 weeks. This issue can be caused by 2 reasons, first check door seals to assure the unit closes completely. This is common with a defrost issue, either the thermostat for defrost has failed or the timer has failed to activate defrost as it was designed to work. Check the defrost system. Send me the model number of the unit you have and I can research the defrost system to see how this could fail within a 2 week period. The ice is to compact to be a seal issue. How much ice or frost was on the false wall/cover you removed to get to this evaporator?

I have a 30 year old fridgidere top freezer refridgerator and the fan in the freezer keeps stopping first it sounds like it is hitting something then it stops and if I turn off the fridge for a day and...

This is a pure case of the AUTO DEFROST timer having a fault or the THERMOSTAT being weak.
The fan is hitting onthe frost that is building up after a couple of days. When you shut the fridge all frost goes off to clear the fan , the frost then build up gradually as the timer does not activate the auto defrost or the thermostat is cutting off the fridge as it runs on.
So get these two parts checked and changed. Inthe first place ccheck the timerr, normally at the rear bottom.

Whirlpoolpool side by side

The pattern of frost buildup would indicate to me that the freezer door may not be fully closing due to a product on the door or shelve. Frost only on the back wall would indicate a defrost system problem. Frost like snow on product packages indicates air leaking into the freezer in some way.

Kemore model 795.7731 bottom freezer

You are probably correct that it is the evap motor. If you are seeing frost on the back wall then there is probably some ice built up around the motor and the fan blade is hitting it.
Try defrosting the freezer and look very closely all around the seal for the freezer drawer. It is common for moisture to freeze in the self closers in the drawer rails and not let the drawer close completely on one side or the other. If this happens the small gap will allow the freezer to frost excessively.
Sorrry to be slow in responding. I have been very busy this week and have not been on line very much.

Freezer/Fridge work SOMETIMES

Sounds like you have a bad relay on the compressor or a bad compressor. If the compressor is a Tecumpseh brand then it is most likely the problem.
