How do I turn off the freezer section on a fridge freezer?

This only has a normal 3 pin plug plus a temperature control in the fridge itself. I can't see a control of any kind for the freezer. Is there a way of stooping the freezer running as I don't need it at the moment?

Thanks very helpful. I'll just fill it with boxes to reduce the need to run.

Unfortunately you can't. Both the fridge and freezer sections are cooled by the same compressor. You can't just have one without the other!

Hi i have a wirlpool fridge the freezer and fridge works fine but it seems the motor keep on running and dont switch off or is it the fan that is running please help

Hello Sandra;

My name is Peter. I am a retired field service refrigeration technician.

You just have a simple operational and maintenance issue.
Neither your compressor or fans should run continuously.

First, you need to clean your condensing coil. You did not provide a model number so you either have a flat cooling coil in the front bottom, or a canister type in the back right hand side. This coil dissipates the heat. If it is plugged up your compressor and fans will run trying to keep up with the unit temperature settings. This can make a difference as much as 40 degrees. The toe plate, bottom front is either held in place with a screw on each end. If no screws, there is a clip on each end. Just pull and it will pop out.

Second, You only have only one cooling source and that is your freezer. The freezer will try to satisfy itself first before the fresh food section. If you set the temperature controls beyond the unit design settings your compressor and fans will keep running. Set your freezer to -2 or +2 Deg. F., and set your fresh food section to 35-40 Deg. F.

Third, Check your door gaskets. make sure there are no gaps.

Why is the pilot light on my ERN7926 frost free flashing?

To Start the Appliance
Allow the appliance to stand for 2 hours after
installation. Plug in the appliance and switch on at the mains
supply. Turn the thermostat control (B) to a midway
setting and adjust the slider control, situated on the
back wall of the fridge section, to a midway position
between "MIN" and "MAX".
The pilot light (A) will illuminate. Leave the appliance for approximately 4 hours for the correct temperature to be reached before placing food inside.
To switch off the appliance turn the thermostat
control to position "?"

After 4 hours, measure the temperature in the refrigerator and freezer. Should be between 2 and 10 degrees centigrade in refrigerator and app. -18 in freezer.

Hotpoint FZ175G red warning light comes on freezer still freezing after reset light comes on again after a couple of hours

Red light on for High Freezer Temperature Warning
or freezer not cooling, but fridge is and a lot of noise from compressor.
Also, fridge drain hole blocked, water in bottom of fridge.

This is a common fault in Hotpoint Fridge Freezers and can also happen if the door has been left open or has been a power cut.

1. Turn off fridge freezer, or at least turn down the freezer temp to minimum, though not ideal.
2. Open freezer door and remove all drawers.
3. Remove the back panel on the inside of the freezer. This is held in place with 4 screws, which might be 6mm hex head or star allen head. Pull the panel out.
4. Behind where the panel was, there is a cooling element for cooling, pipes, and below this a temperature sensor. If the fridge freezer is not switched off, then fold together a few layers of tinfoil and wrap around the sensor.
5. Use a hairdryer to slowly melt the ice. Melt it around areas where it appears to be hanging on, such as the corners of the cooling element or bolts, as well as any thin sections below the main block of ice around the cooling element, which will be supporting the main block. Use a plastic ice scraper to remove ice but not near pipes or sensor.
Warning: Be careful using electrics around water & melting ice & drips.
6. Below the cooling element, there is a drip channel & drain hole. If this hole is full of ice, pour a small amound of warm water down, leave for 10 seconds and pour a bit more until clear.
In the fridge, clear the drain hole in the same way.
Warning: Do not pour a lot of water down, as this water drains onto a tray above the hot compressor at the rear of the fridge freezer to be evaporated by the heat of the compressor and the tray will only hold a small amount.
7. When all ice is removed, dry all moisture. Put the shelves back. Close door. Turn on fridge freezer. Turn up the freezer temperature to your normal setting. Turn on fast freeze if available. After 1 hour, check with a thermometer. It should be cold enough after 1 or 2 hours.

I have a Kenmore Elite 51374. The refrigerator is not getting cold enough but freezer is too cold. Technician said that it was an electrical problem to call a electrician that I needed a new outlet. I...

That is the dumbest answer I've ever heard from a technician.

The cold control on most boxes controls the freezer temperature. You want the freezer temp to be around zero degrees.

Somewhere (usually in the refrigerator section) there's another control that actually sets a damper, letting some cold air from the freezer into the refrigerator. Higher numbers equal lower temperature. Find that second control knob and turn it up by 1 or 2 numbers, let an hour or so pass and check your refrigerator temp. You want about 40 degrees in the fridge.

Freezer not defrosting

You got the right idea. your fridge have a deforst problem, and it can be cause by a number of items. 1. the timer, 2 the defrost temperature control. 3 the defrost element itself.
Before you use the hair dryer when there is ice forming in the back panel, try to turn the timer and see wheather you can set it to defrost cycle manually if you can then the timer need to be change. the 2 and 3 item is a bit more work for normal people to deal with, you better call in a serviceman and watch him how he handle it so you can try it yourself next time. God Bless

Hotpoint Mistral frost free fridge freezer.

This is a little hard for me to understand being a yank and all. 0C is 32 Fahrenheit, right so 4/5 is about 40? make sure everything is working, compressor , evaporator fan motor (the one inside) condenser fan motor (the one outside) if you have one. You should have an adjustment for freezer and one for the fridge sections, right. The fridge section controls what amount of cold air comes from the freezer compartment. Check the vents inside, make sure they are not blocked and they open and close when you adjust the control. If this all checks good then check the thermostat. If the compressor shuts off prematurely, then a new thermostat may be in order. If you think you can do this, find the thermostat, by-pass the wires. this will make the compressor run continuously. After 20 minutes or so it should make the desired temperature or close to it. None of the fans or compressor should turn off while this is by-passed.
