My q1000 Modem brodcasts a wifi signal throughout my house, but every now and then the wifi signal gets dropped. what is cousing this and how do i fix it

Few basics need to be taken care of. Electronic devices like fax machines, printers, halogen lamps, speakers or anything which runs on electricity needs to be atleast 2 feet away from your router. Make sure that there is a distance of 2 feet or more between your modem and your router.

I want to place the webcam 20/25 feet away from PC to view the function conducted in hall,by using USB extn cord. When I use a cord of 15 feet it works and when I aqdd one more extn of 15 feet PC is not...

Unfortunately, without amplification, signal through USB cable will be lost after about 6 meters (approx. 20ft).
To solve this limitation, use a USB signal booster...

It seems that the signal is strong next to the router, but drops to 1 bar within 30 feet away? What is the most likely solution.

Hi,
Routers generally have a strong signal for up to 10 meters. However no obstacles should be in the way. 30 feets is about 10 meters so the router is loosing its signal strength. If you would like to extend the strength of your router you can buy a range expander. This device acts as a repeater of the signal so from 10 meters you can go to 15 or 20 meters.

Toshiba PCX2500 Cable Modem Problem

Your cable signal is probably to weak at the modem. This is the most common cause, especially if it works and then doesn't, works for a while then doesn't.

Call your cable company and have them come out to check signal strength at the modem.

You could have a damaged drop to the house, water damage on the line, squirrel chew (seriously), dry rotted drop, too many splitters in the house, etc...

My internet keeps dropping out

possible reasons:

Dial up:
  • phone line problem.especially in wet weather, crackling on the line ,call the telco.
  • modem\router on its way out. connect directly to the modem and try it .
  • settings for idle time before disconect needs turning off, (set to 20 minute by default)in most cases.
  • if you have call waiting ,turn it off ,as it can kick you of the net when a call is trying to comes in.
if you use ADSL and/or wireless :
  • some of the above and
  • some USB dongle are prone to drop out,
  • try using a Lan cable
  • brick walls and other hard surfaces can interfere with the signal if you are away some distance from the wireless router.
  • cordless phones can cause problems, keep them away from the modem\wireless router and wireless dongle, or adapter in the pc/laptop
good luck with this and let me know how it goes

Netgear router AAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGG

You did not mention if this is a wireless or wired connection. I will assume wireless for now. Since you are 4 feet away, you cant get any better reception than that.

When you go into the kitchen, you can have several things interfere with the radio signal. First is distance, how far away from the router are you? Second, what does the signal have to travel through to reach your laptop. What kind of walls, what is in those walls that can interfere with the signals. Do you have a lot of metal in your kitchen, that can act as a signal shield, preventing the signal from reaching your laptop. The high voltage wires in your kitchen walls can not be good for the signal.

What items in your kitchen can cause Electromagnetic interference (EMI). The motors in a refrigerator, or a blender will cause EMI.

Look at your laptop, it should tell you the signal strength. You will have to bring up the software that monitors your wireless connection. See how far you get from the router before to drops off.

If the router is not on the same level as your laptop, this will cause problems. Is your router in the basement or upstairs in a den or something like that?
