Sony Handycam DCR-TRV33 Mini DV Digital Camcorder Logo

My Sony DCR-TRV33 won't accept a cassette. It will close itself up without a cassette tape in place, but not while a cassette is inserted. I have tried several different tapes, so it is not the cassette.

Hi wnwatkins3,

Have the same problem here. Bought my TVR33 in 2003, and its still
a good cam with 1 megapixel. But since 1 month the tape won't load. I can insert any tape in the cassette, but it won't close. Without a tape it closes fine.
My only option is to send it to frsbenelux to fix it for a few hundred euros. Hoping to find a solution on the net, i will share with ya.

My sony dcr t r v 33 Is in auto eject mode and if I close the main door it still tries to eject and then after a few seconds I get the c 3210 error I can sit here and close cassette cradle and it will do...

The 32:10 error code indicates a problem in the cameras tape transport system. This can be caused by several problems including the transmission gear in the tape mechanism not engaging properly, a defective clutch in the take-up spool or a faulty rotary mode switch. This will require disassembling the camera to repair and can be done fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired by a qualified service technician.

My name is Rick and I'm a professional repair technician with over 20 years in the business and have repaired many of these. I'm semi retired and work from home with little overhead so I can keep repair costs low. If you decide to have the camera repaired, please click HERE for a directory listing that suits your needs.

Hi,
It seems that your cassette holding alignment has been disturb... Since Sony does not provide service manual, at home we can try our luck only....
Check out this, while inserting cassette analyse that which side of cassette is stucking and try to figure out causes for the same, that means check whether there is any displacement has taken place....

The tape carrage wont load the tapes but it will go into the load position without.

I have a sony cam myself. If the cam is empty, you open the outer door(swings out), and the load/unload mechanism rises up and pops open allowing tape insertion. When a cassette is placed into the mechanism, you press where it says "push" and then the drive pulls the tape down and into the unit. Then the outer door is closed and you're ready to tape. IF YOU PUSH DOWN ON THE TAPE WHILE IT'S BEING PULLED INTO THE UNIT IT WILL STRIP GEARS INSIDE. The gears are made of nylon to prevent serious damage to motors and other circuitry. This transport setup cannot be forced at all. If any type of mis-alignment occurs, the mechanism is supposed to stop and back up--allowing the problem to be corrected. If it is damaged, the cam must be repaired. There is critical timing involved in replacing the tape carriage.---Rick

  1. I'm having the exact same problem. It wont accept the cassette...only half way then errors. It will close fully without a cassette as well. hmmmmm
Comment by Guest, posted on Apr 02, 2008 Load cassette, turn it on, then message says re-load cassette. Door to cassette compartment only works half way. After fiddling with power, can get the cassette door to open and close all the way, but not with cassette. Tried several brands of cassettes, no joy.
