Radeon ATI 9600XT video card

Card works ok on generic drivers in windows xp, but as soon as I install the real drivers, the computer crashes after windows loads up.

Any ideas?

Motherboard is a albatron pm266a pro

Tried everything so far to no avail, and neither company wants to help.

Try this, I just tested (2 days ago) an Albatron that arrived here with a 9800pro, crashing everytime they tried to play games.
I installed the latest drivers etc that "should" have resolved the issues...It made it worse. Updated everything including the chipset etc.

After driving myself crazy for several hours I installed the Catalyst 7.3 drivers... Away it went fine, tried the 7.4 (same problems as before), back to 7.3 and fine again.

So with Albatron boards and ATI cards, try the Catalyst 7.3 driver located <HERE>

ATI Radeon 9600XT

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "ask Me".

Some motherboards require a separate AGP port driver to be installed before the drivers of the AGP video card could be recognized. This is specially so for 8X. Perhaps the solution requires that you install the complete motherboard drivers including the AGP port before installing the ATI 9600XT drivers.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

ATI 9600 xt problems

Hi, Im guessing that your motherboard has an intergrated video card & you installed the 9600 card into the opened AGP slot on the board. If you would have listed the model number of your motherboard I would't have to guess. What you need to do is enter your bios & make a change so your bios loads the AGP slot & not the intergrated video card. How to get into your bios? As soon as you turn on the Pc press the Delete key every two seconds. If your system fails to load the bios than you will need to try some of the others F keys. Let the PC finish loading. Re-start the PC. As it starts up try the F1 key every two seconds. Continue in this manner using these other F keys untill your system boots into the bios. F2, F10 or F12. One will work for you. Once in the bios use your manual if you have one. You are looking for Video display. You want the bios to load the AGP slot first, this will disable the intergrated video automatically. Your Pc will now see your 9600 video card & you will be able to load it's software. If the 9600 uses ATI's software you should update the Radeon software by going to ATI/AMD & update your video software with the latest drivers. Click the link I have posted below to upgrade your Radeon 9600XT card. Good idea to save the link.
