When at speed i tend to lose sight of the bottom it becomes very broken. Also the depth reading takes a while to record depth.

That's common with most depth finders ..there not to run at a high speed and read the bottom havent found one yet that will do that unit should read the bottom at a slow speed ..at high speed it will lose what they call ( bottom lock ) unit will not read then . . .once bottom lock is returned it will start to read then

What you are experiencing sounds like air bubbles crossing the face of the transducer. If you have a transom mount transducer check the face of the transducer. Make sure that it is clean. Also make sure the front of the transducer is a tiny bit lower than the back. The digital readout on the screen will only happen when you have a strong signal of the bottom.

What can i do to stop the flashing of the depth finder at times it will not show the current depth

Hey Joe,
Wow.. where to start.. there are so many things that will cause the issue you are describing. What type of electronics do you have? Does this happen at all speeds? Where is the transducer mounted? I need more info about when it stops reading.
1.Wrong setting on the unit
2 Bad transducer
3 Bad transducer mounting (either inside the hull or outside the hull.)
4. (In hull) Turbulence going under the boat (mine quits reading at about 55 mph @ half trim...the boat is lifting so much it causes air pockets so the transducer loses contact with the water)
5. (Outside hull) Turbulence around the bottom of the boat where the transducer meets the water.
Good luck,, when you get the info.. reply to me..

My lowrance elite 4 HDI goes black when i get on plane so my backtrack feature doesnt work

The speed of your boats travel only directly affects your sonars ability to read the water depth.
your backtrack feature is GPS based. These is not affected by your boat being on plane.

Your screen being black sounds like your sonar is losing bottom contact due to air bubbles passing under the transducer. This is a common occurrence with most boats.

Add some details regarding what your seeing and we can help you get a better handle on your difficulty.

I have a fujifilm finepix z35 camera and i need to access the depth of focus and shutter speed settings for a project for college but I don't know how to do this. Does anyone know?

Like most point&shoot cameras the Z35 doesn't give you much direct control over "minor" things like aperture and shutter speed. It's designed for you to simply point and shoot.

You have some control however, by selecting a scene mode. Portrait mode, for example, will attempt to open up the aperture to minimize depth of field, which tends to result in a faster shutter speed. Landscape mode, on the other hand, will attempt to close down the aperture to maximize depth of field, resulting in a slower shutter speed.

I know the rules for a still camera, film or digital, for the relationship of aperture and shutter speeds. Example: average light source one may use f8 and 1/250 shutter speed. Or f16 at 1/60 shutt

What's your question? The rules are the same for video as for still pictures. After all, all the video camera is doing is taking a rapid sequence of still pictures.

Won't work over certain speeds

Think of where the transducer is fitted on your boat . As turbulence is the only problem you need to worry about. It needs too be on the transom but in between the lower 2 chines

My depth finder loses its depth reading at about

You need to set the transducer lower. When at speed, the hull of the ship raises up out of the water and hence your transducer is probably not deep enough at these times to give a proper reading.

Digiscope

Hey timpo,
I would definitely use some kind of remote release since even the smallest amount of camera shake (pressing the shutter button) can cause blurry images in high magnification images. At the type of magnifications usually involved in digiscopeing the depth of field of your images will be greatly reduced and you will need to set the camera to a smaller aperture than usual, which should result in slower shutter speeds. I would definitely have the camera set to manual exposure mode so you can control both the shutter and the aperture although aperture priority should also work well. I would not set the camera to a higher iso since you will lose quality, and since I am assuming you are using a tripod slow shutter speeds should not be an issue. Any movement by the subject will blur the subject if you are using slow shutter speeds so if this becomes an issue you can set the camera to a wider aperture at the loss of depth of field to achieve a faster shutter speed. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Log and trip function not registering

It is unlikely the problem is in the A65 screen.....most likely it is an issue with the paddlewheel itself, its circuit in the depth/speed transducer, or least likely, in the DSM25 sounder module.

Both the log and the trip functiions are read from the paddle-wheel sensor of the connected DSM25 sounder module and transducer.

1. Make sure you have a DSM25 sounder module and transducer with a paddle wheel (the A65 is available without the DSM25 option.)

Double check the connections between the DSM25 and the A65, as well as the transducer connection to the A65. There is an indicator light on the DSM25 to confirm it is on.

2. Make sure the paddle wheel turns freely. They tend to get fouled easily with debris and growth.

3. Make sure the A65 is giving to a reading for SPEED when underway or when having a buddy spin the paddlewheel by hand. Do not confuse SPEED with SOG. SPEED is from the paddlewheel.....SOG (Speed over ground) comes from your GPS sensor and is not used by A65 for log or trip purposes.

If you get npo speed reading at all the paddle wheel may be defective or the depth/speed transducer may be defective. See your dealer about a replacement.

Depth: Could be for a number of reasons, too deep for the sounder - check the manual for it's max depth. Dirty water, sounder unable to penetrate through to the bottom. Weed or other debris covering the transducer. Transducer on a swing mount & being pushed out of alignment then dropping back in once stopped.

Speed: Is the speed readout controlled by a GPS or paddlewheel? If it's GPS, check the power connection of the sounder, may be loose which would also cause the depth to 'drop out'. If it's paddlewheel, you're down to bad connections or faulty unit.
