I started using DVD-RW mini disks on my DC173(U) camcorder on my Alaska cruise last week (after having used DVD-R disks in the past). After recording about 15 minutes of short video clips (out of the 20 minutes disk capacity) during my trip, the disk "became" (showed up as) "unformatted" when I turned the camcorder on. The screen then provided options to format the disk (as VR or Video format). Of course I didn't format it, as I believe I would loose all my video clips. My repeated attempts to restart (boot) the camcorder with the disk did not result in the recovery of this disk error.
Is there a way to recover (from that disk error) or extract the (video clips) data from the disk ? i.e. like a way to get the camcorder to initiate a "recovering data" routine (which I've seen before) .... or any suggested tool/utility/software that I can use to read (& save) the video data from the disk (sectors) ... ? (containing DVD output data from this camcorder)
I subsequently started on a new DVD-RW disk, and it happened to the 2nd DVD-RW disk as well after about 12 minutes of recording.
The Samsung technical support rep (that provided on-line chat assistance) was unable to offer any help; i.e. he told me the video data is lost, and to use another pack (brand) of mini DVD disks to see if it happens again.
Thanks !

I think i just figured it out. Somewhere else on the web clued me in that the disc got messed up (don't know how). I put in a new disc and it works. Other disc still doesn't though.

I've (finally) been able to recover all (if not most) of the contents - video clips from the (bad/corrupted) miniDVD-RW ... and even from my previous miniDVD-R disks ... (that I had recorded using the Samsung videocamera). I use the software tool - IsoBuster Pro . The process (to recover) may be long ... i.e. it may take several to many hours for one miniDVD disk ... but it worked for me.
