My dishwasher smells like rotten eggs when I open the door. Help!
Had a similar problem and started looking around inside the door. I tried to figure out how to remove the plastic air vent cover on the inside of the door (left side). I couldn't figure out how to remove it. So, we purchased a dishwasher cleaner at Lowe's ($4) and tired running it through the machine to see if it would correct the odor problem. It didn't. Somehow the "little lady" did manage to remove it (used a damn table knife of all things) twisted and popped the plastic air vent off. When it was removed she found the obvious problem, black foul smelling mold was growing under the plastic air vent that was radiating its terrible smell into the kitchen through the dishwasher door kitchen side vent . She cleaned the inside vent and the odor problem has left. I guess I'll never live this down, but I must admit that my wife solved the problem. Try this solution and see if it solves your problem. Let us know how you make out!

I don't know yet if cleaning the vent out will fix my smelly dishwasher (have not run it yet) but you don't have to take the plastic air vent off---open dishwasher door - flat - put a rag or something under vent (so it won't ruin your flooring) and pour bleach or vinegar (not at the same time!) from the inside and it will run right through. I got a bunch of black 'gunk' from mine. This tip saves you from taking off the plastic vent - my better half would not let me do that...said, "We're not buying a new dishwasher! You might break the plastic piece!" So, there, 'better-half' I will resolve it myself (and he is a plumber!)

The posted info sounds spurious/wrong. The air vent seal flap is painted black. Neither black algae nor mildew smell like rotten eggs (hydrogen sulfide). Dishwashing detergent is normally loaded with enough hypochlorite to bind up all the sulphur in the food residue and the supply water. People get foul odors from European dishwashers ( Bosch ) that don't have vents from the standing water. Either the OP is mistaken and the smell is from a high sulphur content in the DHW (you'd think taking a shower would be enough to gag a maggot) or the OP is a troll.
