I have owned a FRIGIDAIRE front-loading washer (GLTF2940FE1) for 2 years, and the machine has developed a layer of mold on the front gasket by the door. How do I remove this mold without damaging the gasket, and is there a way to keep the mold from returning? I also guess there is mold in other parts of the washer, and this may be part of the problem. I rarely use bleach to wash my clothes. It help the problem if I were to use bleach more frequently?

Leave washer door slightly ajar after use to air out any moisture. Should prevent any future mold.

Hello Friend, Sounds to me like you have a problem with the quality of your water supply going into your washer. Water quality could be a possibility. If the water contains alot of micro-organisms this could be the problem. When you are not using your front load washer the door remains closed trapping in moisture causing mold and mildew to grow. If you just repeat the cleaning process once again with bleach you should'nt have this problem anymore if you leave the washer door partially open when not in use. Happy to help, Tim.

Run a cycle with just bleach and detergent, no clothes.

The door seal need to be pulled almost inside out to be a able to thoroughly clean it. I usually use a 50-50 mix of bleach water but other cleaning products like oxyclean may work better. After cleaning run a load with no clothes in it to remove any residue. Now if the mold has gotten deep into the rubber and still looks blackish after cleaning it will get moldy real soon and replacement will be the only solution. The key is from day one to leave the door open as you do and also wipe the door seal with a towel after each use. Not to defend frigidaire but most of the other brands have the same issues, some worse. If you need to replace the door seal or if the wire ring pops off when cleaning here is a link that should help http://appliancehelponline.com/washerdoorseal.html

Hello friend, thanks for your post!
I understand that you have a mold smell developing inside of your Frigidaire washer. I would normally recommend using a clean wash cycle with either one cup of bleach or one pouch of Tide Washing Machine Cleaner. If you do not have a clean wash cycle on your washer you could also use hot water and a regular cycle with a cup of bleach to clean out your washer.
You should also check over your gasket to assure there is no mold buildup, if you do locate mold inside of your gasket you can use bleach to help get rid of any residue. I hope this information is helpful. -Matt
