I need a MovieBox DV (1394)driver compatible with

I need a MovieBox DV (1394) driver compatible with Vista. I don't want to go thru the whole Studio uninstall-reinstall drill. The Moviebox device is permanently "in use" and has been assigned to some Microsoft driver and shows up as an AV/C device in device manager.

Pinnacle Software has a Vista Patch to use with their applications that you have to download and install. I had this same problem when I used Pinnacle for my remote camera system.

Does moviebox usb work with studio 14 and vista? I can't get my camera to show as an import device when connected to the movie box.

This is the latest hardware device that can used for Studio 14.

Check the list.

USB based
  • 710-USB
  • 510-USB
  • 700-USB
  • 500-USB
  • MovieBox Deluxe
  • DVC-103
  • DVC-107
  • DVC-100
  • DVC-90
  • DVC-130 (There are no 64-bit drivers for this product.)
  • DVC-170 (There are no 64-bit drivers for this product.)
PCI based
  • 700-PCI (a.k.a. Pinnacle Studio Deluxe 2)
  • 500-PCI (a.k.a. Pinnacle AV/DV)
  • Any 1394 cards.

Are you using vista 32 or 64 bit system? If Vista 64 bit there is no driver for your device and the only available is 32 bit only. Aside from that you can check also the video cable you were trying to used. If firewire under import/capture tab of Studio 14 you need to select the name of your camcorder or dv camcorder. Check that out and try.

Saving Dv tape to computer? Getting computer to see camera?

The USB connection is for getting still images (photos) off the camcorder. To get moving images (video) off the camcorder, you must use a FireWire cable (IEEE 1394). The cable only costs about $15. But you need to have a FireWire port on your computer to plug it into -- if you don't have one, you'll have to install a FireWire card. Check someplace like TigerDirect computer parts supplier, they are only $15 to $60 now.

Or, if you don't want to open up your computer to install a FireWire card, you can buy a Pinnacle MovieBox for $120. It just sits next to your computer, not inside. It is very easy to use and comes with great video editing software. You plug the FireWire from your camcorder into the front of the MovieBox, then plug the back of the MovieBox into your computer with USB.

Plus, you can use the MovieBox to record from your VCR or DVD player into your computer! For that, you'll need the standard red/white/yellow cables.

In fact, if your camcorder has those cables, you can use them to go thru the MovieBox, and save yourself the cost of the FireWire cable. But I think FireWire will give better quality than the red/white/yellow cable.
