You may have overloaded it, and it may have been damaged.

Check your circuit breakers first. If there was an overload, they should have tripped if overload was long enough in duration and high enough in capacity.

If the breakers are good, then check your diodes and capacitor regulator in the end of the alternator. While you are here, check your brushes as well.

Starts fine...no juice....sat for 10 years in the box...started using it 3 weeks ago...worked fine until yesterday....starts...runs..no juice...no circuit breakers blown...what's up?

Colemans were known for losing what is known as "residual magnetism", especially when sitting for long periods of time without use. This residual magnetism is necessary for exciting the field to produce electricity. Here is what you can try: Plug a 110v drill into one of the 110 outlets. While the engine/generator is running, with an open hand (not fingers wrapped around it) spin the chuck while holding the drill trigger in the run position. Many times this small amount of current that will be produced by spinning the drill motor will restore the residual magnetism and excite the field. Keep in mind that if this works, the drill motor will begin to spin immediately since it is plugged into the outlet. Hope this helps.

Without knowing the exact model generator you have, it may not even have an automatic voltage regulator (AVR). My coleman powermate 6250 generator just stopped producing electricity. It was running all day. Motor still runs just no juice.

check the reset-- if power to reset line, switch bad if no power -check feed out from generator if no out put then possible internal problem --winding or short

I have a Coleman Powermate 6250. Runs Great, No power to outlets!

Excite the genset.

with the gen engine running,
1) plug a 3/8 drill into an outlet,
(make sure the drill is set to the forward rotation)
2) hold the trigger in the run position
3) by hand, rotate the drill chuck with a quick flip of your wrist.
*** NOTE: BE PREPARED !!! this will excite the gen-set and the drill will start to run as normal.

Runs great but will not produce electricity

To flash the excitor circuit on a coleman ( the generator is built by generac) you need a 12 volt battery. You quickly apply 12 volts via your 120vac recepticals. NO MORE THAN ONE OR TWO SECONDS! Then check you ac voltage. Most of the time the brushes are burnt up when voltage is low. Check the brushes first. You can access them by taking the end cap off of the generator via two to four screws. The brush holder is easy to spot, two wires leading to the front of the amature. Hope this solves your problem.

Coleman 5KW gen motor shuts down when A/C switch turned on

Sounds like a problem with the wiring of the outlets after the circuit breaksr. Take apart the outlet box and have a look for burned or broken wires, melted outlets, and/or small critters stuck in the wiring.
I recently had to repair a generator that had its voltage regulator taken out by a frog!

Engine runs but won't generate any electricity

Sometimes the generator loses the magnetic field that allows it to produce power. Do a Google search on "flashing a generator field". There are many ways to do it, but I would recommend doing some reading before trying it. Your "dead" generator could produce hazardous voltage once it comes back to life.

Also, before trying any of this, make sure the circuit breakers on the generator (if equipped) are not tripped.

Good luck and be careful!

Coleman Powermate 5000 no electricity, runs fine

Hello;
Take a look at your outlets. Some of these units use pretty cheap outlets and short out. You will know if it is bad when you look at it. Hope this helps.
Thanks;
