It's not town water. It's something in the refrigerator. My unfiltered tap water tastes better than the Whirlpool channeled ice and water. Moreover, a Brita faucet filter does a wonderful job in removing all tastes from my unfiltered water. I change my Whirlpool filters as often as required.

Freezer area smells and ice cubes and butter taste off?

It sounds like the ice maker if equiped. Remove Ice bin and clean out,and try a lite spray of bleach or vinegar (don't mix) If the smell is still happening and comming from ice you may want to install a inline filter.

Our model number is the GSS25JEPA and the ice in the ice machine leaves a after taste seems like it is a chemical taste and strange smell on the ice that the machine makes. I am not sure what to do.

I would suspect the water supply to the refrigerator. After it has sat without use over night at least, turn the water off and open the fill line at the refrigerator and place it in a clean container. Turn the water on gently for a very short time then check what you have in the container. More then likely it will contain what you are saying is in the ice. If not then you need to thoroughly clean the freezer and ice maker, my preference is to use a mild soap and bleach solution. The bleach would kill any mold that may be present.
Good Luck,

Ice maker has bad taste and smell

Add a cap of Miltons or a couple of granules of pool chlorine. Allow it to stand for a couple of hours and then drain.

Bad tasting water and ice from refridgerator.

i agree with rpbuice but in addition to flushing the water line you may need to replace the line then using the water dispencer run out about a gallon of water thru the door. this will clear the reservoir of bad tasting water. for the i/m throw out all of your ice then let it make a couple of batches and throw out that ice as well be sure to clean your ice bucket very good to remove any lingering tastes from the old ice.
fyi bad tasting water is generally from bad water supplies. good luck..

ICE CUBE MAKER SMELLY ICE CUBES

Hello margrek
Welcome,

YOU SAID, YOU HAVE KENMORE ELITE BOTTOM FREEZER WITH ICE MAKER THE ICE CUBES SMELL HORRIBLE ALWAYS, I EVEN TOSS THEM OUT EVERY FEW DAYS, STILL SAME PROBLEM

Ice has bad odor and taste.

1• Ice has picked up odor or
flavor from strong food stored
in refrigerator or freezer.
2• Water running to ice maker
has poor taste or odor.
3• Ice not used frequently enough.
4• Cover foods tightly. Discard stale ice. Ice maker will
produce fresh supply.
5• Add filter to water supply line. Consult a water purifying
company.
7• Discard stale ice.
