We had a power surge and the freezer thawed out and did not come back on when the power came on the freezer sounds like it is working the quick freeze light is on and the green light is on we defrosted this freezer once in 3 years the bottom draw has always been aproblem as it would not keep things frozen drawer would ice up and freeze shut i adjusted the drawer a couple of times and it seemed to work better what do I need to do to get it going again. I would rather buy a new freezer than spend money on this 5 year old freezer

The compressor may be seized or the start relay on the side of the compressor may be burned out. If it's just a relay then it will be a cheap fix but if it's the compressor it will could cost more than the freezer is worth. Call a tech to check it out if you don't have the knowledge to work with electricity.

Check out this tip that I wrote about that... it is a great place to start trouble shooting your unit...and something that you can do rather then calling a repair person to do a simple thing for you...

I have a belling chest freezer BCF 20 ... It has an orange fast freeze switch is this switch left on all the time????

No. That is like running it on "high power" full time and could cause it to wear out and stop working much sooner than it's natural life expectancy. It also uses up more than twice the electricity on your electric bill, than it needs to work normally. That setting could also be used in something like a store, where people open it up every few minutes, to keep it cold when it's opened so often.

That switch should only be used for emergencies, like after a power outage, or to quickly freeze foods that were fully thawed and need to be frozen quickly.

Product thawed to cold in freezer...

If you had the door open for that long you will need to unplug and allow the ice buildup that happens when door is left open to thaw. After this you need only to plug the refrigerator back into the power source.Let me know what happens It is not going to work correctly until this is done. Sea Breeze

I have a Jenn-Air Refig with the freezer on the bottom. The ICE maker is not working and I think it might be frozen. How do I disconnect the ice maker so i can thaw it out?

Why not do a quick thaw and move the frozen goods over to the firdge for a few minutes and grab a blow dryer. This should give a temporary fix until you can pin point the problem. Be kind to me please with a Thumbs up. I am a long ways away and can only help a little. Raz

Freezer is running but food is thawing

If this is a self defrosting freezer, check amd make sure the evaporator fan motor is running and make sure there is no frost buit up on the back panel. Please let me know if either of these are the case so I can assist you further.

Thanks

We have a 20.3 cubic feet Kenmore upright frost free freezer we purchased in May 2003. We noticed the meat was beginning to thaw one afternoon. We hit the quick freeze button and that seemed to fix the...

This sounds like a bad thermostadt, since the quick freeze button does work. But it should be much colder than 32 degrees. It may also be the motor, since it runs for brief periods of time after plugging it back in.

I'd say best bet here is to call a repairman. (sorry...)

Amana self defrosting upright freezer - drain plug

The subject is a Eureka Model 350 hand held steamer that can be found at Lowes and other places for around $49.95. With this steamer you can thaw out an evaporator as quick as if you were using a heat gun or hair dryer but without the slightest concern about melting plastic or wiring. By using steam instead of pouring water (yes many still do) there is little to clean up. With the many attachments it comes with there are other uses (i.e. cleaning, thawing drains, thawing IDI fill tubes, etc.). The steam also makes the replacement IDI fill tube (rubber end) more pliable and easier to complete the installation when used at the end.
This unit has a trigger and can be used to blow out a stopped up drain on a refrigerator by letting the pressure build up a little then blow through the drain with one of the attachments. As for thawing out evaporators it had a fine jet tip for actually CUTTING through solid ice.
Another great use for this tool is refrigerator door gaskets. The hot steam works faster than a heat gun with out the worry.

Note: Do not aim steam directly onto the plastic freezer liner. The rapid temperature change could damage the liner.
