Auto idle does not work propertly on makita g 6101 generator

When I turn on the auto idle switch with no load connected to the generator the engine down its speed but not constantly. Its start increasing and decreasing its speed and did not maintain its lower speed as is supposed to be. There is not load on generator when that occurs. Also if I disconnect the battery then the auto idle works perfectly and maintain the speed lower when its on.

The battery charging is also a load. If the battery is not well charged or old it may need about 60 - 120 W to charge, which is not "Idle".

I have a husqvarna generator 1365GN. The engine runs but it does not produce electricity. also the auto idile stopped working. I've replaced the brushes and rectifier. but still no electricity.

I can't advise on the electrics but on my gen the auto idle works off the gen load. Load=revs up. No load=cut to idle. Fix one will probably fix the other. Husqvarna is part of Electrolux if thats any help identify the generator unit.

Honda eb5000 generator starts fine seems to run good but idle control does not work . will not rev up at all.i can turn carb idle screw in to bring revs up it makes power out of the generator but idle

Like a lot of stationary engines a generator engine is governed, or at least should be governed.

That is to say, when the engine is started it should be running at a predetermined speed which is not an idle speed but the speed the engine works most efficiently and that typically would be in the region of perhaps 1800 to 2500 rpm. In the case of an alternating current (ac) generator the speed will be determined by the alternator and the requirement of the frequency of the ac output to be around 50 to 60 cycles per second.

It is the function of the governer to maintain that preset speed within fairly close limits so when an appliance is connected to the generator and switched on the load increases and if it were not for the governer the engine would slow down which would be unacceptable. The governer therefore opens the throttle and restores the speed to the preset value. When the extra load is removed the engine will speed up momentarily and then restabilise at the right speed.

The governer is somethimes an engine driven set of bob-weights hidden inside the crankcase and sometimes nothing more complicated than a flap moving against a spring in the blast of cooling air from the fan. In all cases the governer is connected to the carburettor, typically by an adjustable link that includes a spring.

From your description it would seem the governer of your generator engine is jammed, broken, seriously maladjusted or simply no longer connected.

I hope this helps.

What is wrong with the idle on my welder? the switch works , it idles up when I switch it on high and it idles down when I switch it down but it wont go up when I strike an arc or use power tools, what...

There is something wrong with the auto load sensing switch which is part of the generator. That is the sensor that detects when current load from the generator drops as in when you strike an arc or turn on a power tool and cranks the throttle to full power. It is obviously working on manual because the manual switch is cranking the revs up so the solenoid that operates the throttle is ok. My advice is to take it to a service centre that deals in welder/generator sets as you are playing with dangerous voltages and may possibly damage the machine by tinkering with it or fry yourself (nasty)

My Honda EB3500X Shuts off when auto throttle is switched on making me run full throttle at all times. Cause? Solution?

if your engine shutting down, then your auto throttle is working.
when you hit the switch watch the throttle arm move on the carburetor to the idle position,if so you may have to clean the carburetor jet and fuel nozzle ports.possibly this occurs when unit has been stored for quite some time.once jets are cleaned it should maintain idle.

Have a EB5000X generator which has staring problems, aprx 8 yrs old and not used a great deal until hurricane Ike came thru here and it ran for several days with minimal down time. Afterwards I changed the...

If I understand the problem correctly, it runs fine after you cleaned the carb, but the auto idle will not engage when you put a load on it. First if it has a switch to turn the auto idle off try that. if it does not rev up, then the magnetic controller is stuck. There is a magnetic coil which is connected to the throttle and this either pulls or releases the throttle when load is applied. My guess is that this is hung up a bit. Look for a small round coil with wires coming off it that is connected to the throttle assembly. You could also try tracing the wire from the auto idle switch backwards. This may just be stuck in the idle position by corrosion. especially if you live in a humid area or one near the ocean. gently try to work it a bit by hand (when the generator is not running) and try a bit of wd40 or the like.

Generator does not go down to idle when no load

Check the idle control rod Is it bent or hanging up on something?

Unit starts with auto throttle off. engaging auto throttle shuts down unit. in past months, pluging in a cord would shut down unit. That is with no tool in use, just plugging into the receptacle.

Hi. There are 2 things that control the Auto Throttle and that is the idle control valve (Connected with black and yellow wires) and the Auto Throttle Unit.

Start Generator
Check for 12VDC on the Yellow wire of the idle control valve. Yellow is positive to any good Chassis ground. If you don't have 12VDC then either the Auto Throttle switch is bad or the Auto Throttle Unit iself.

You can gain access to the Auto throttle switch and again check for 12VDC to Ground on both sides of the switch with the switch on. (It may read as high as 13.8 engine running) If you don't get 12 - 13.8 VDC the the Auto throttle control unit is bad

If you have 12VDC to the Idle control Valve and it does not work perform a resistance check across the coil of the Idle control Valve (both wires disconnected Engine off) Black to yellow should read 3 to 4 Ohms If you have no resistance then the coil in the Idle control Valve is bad.

Honda ex3500 generating no voltage at all. oil is fine, clean spark arrester, clean coil area, and good 1-15 amp fuses. i thought there a larger fuse that could be the culprit but where the heck is it???...

Is this a new device for you or have you used it in the past?

Generic comments follow:

In my experience, there is a switch that ya turn off to start the device and allow it to warm up. Following this short period, ya turn this switch to the on position and a governor takes over - slows the engine to an idle until it sees a load at which time it runs the engine speed up. In the off position, the generator part of this combo is turned off.

In my experience, the protection devices on small generators are auto reset.

Let me know if this works for you.

thanks

Wont speed up

If it is suppose to speed up there should be a switch that says auto idle. Just turn that off and this will cure your problems
