HP Elitebook 8540p is getting no video while plugged into docking station unless I open the laptop and power it on before I dock it. I have tried 2 different docking stations, should be noted I am using Windows XP.

Remove the RTC battery, the main battery and the adapter. Hold
down the power button for 30 seconds and leave the laptop sit for at
least 20 minutes before inserting the RTC battery back in. Install the
main battery and adapter.
When you boot up it will ask to load default BIOS settings, use your arrow and enter keys to do so.
The RTC battery is pointed out by the red arrow and is behind the memory bay door.
Make sure to reset the time and date, if you don't do this Windows will think you have an invalid copy.
Next
time you boot up, start immediately tapping the f10 key to get into the
BIOS to reset the clock and date. You can do it with in Windows, but I
think it's better to do this in the BIOS.
The solution that resolved this problem On Bios version F.0E was:

Just as a heads up: The upgrade to this bios version used to fix a known issue with the COM1 ports being duplicated on the older 8540p's, Bios version F.03, or F.06, but if you have a newer model of the 8540p's the bios downgrade will effectively kill the system.
So, before you try this fix: I tried it last week and it officially turned my 8540p into a giant useless fan... Seems HP modified something on board of the latest 8540p's and a BIOS downgrade on the new 8540p systems will effectively kill the motherboard, so a word to the wise: if you have bios version F.0E do not use the link above to the older system bios for the 8540p's or it will kill the motherboard...
hi I think that's what I did. because when I turn on the laptop, there will not be any image on the screen. You know what to do, or you can just reset the BIOS. thank you
