Hello, I have an ACER Aspire M5630 with Windows Vista operating System. It contains a CD-Rom R/RW which worked fine until yesterday when I went to install a new game and it is no longer reading CDs. When I placed the game in the CD slot it makes a bit of noise as if it is trying to read it but then the autorun will not come on and when I try to manually install the CD it will tell me that drive D is empty. Please note that I have tried to do this with other CDs and the same thing happens. Thanking you in advance for your help!

then scroll down and look for the cd/dvd driver if available

Vista is proprietary, you need to go out and find the correct driver for that CD-RW/DVD-ROM for that Acer PC.

Surely to load XP is a DownGrade. As this notebook is dual core, I would run Vista 64 or better still Windows 7 64.
If you wish to persist with an old system, you require SP3 for XP.That may be available from a software store but is no longer supported by Windows.

A branded computer uses Original Equpment Manufacturer (OEM) version of Operating System, hence if you change any hardware it will go to the trial version of OS automatically. Hence, you have to use the full system recovery disk to reinstall the OS.

may be your combo drive go to demage change it replace another or you use external usb cd rom or DVD must be select usb cd rom/DVD

Get some other software like Nero. It is mach better than any Windows Software. Especially if you are using VISTA>

Update Acer drivers. I lost 1 USB on my Acer. This resolved the issue. After fixing it change settings to allow automatic updates.

1.this is not a problem of your operating system.so don't format again.
2.you must install the drivers for the CD rom.
3.if not fix it is a problem in the circuit board of CD rom,very difficult to fix.
