The rear wheels will not turn in reverse at all. I

I have a Lawn Boy model 10685 mower. Yesterday the rear wheels began to lock up when trying to pull the mower backwards. They will not turn in reverse at all. Also the forward drive is difficult and slow at best. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated

Thank you

Rear wheel drives like this have pinion gears with rachet pawls that allow them to go backwards freely while locking when the transmission drives them.

You need to take off your rear wheels and carefully remove the pawls. They look like little squareish metal shaft keys with springs under them. You should notice that the keys or pawls are covered in what looks like grease.....which is actually worm metal from the pinion gear and oil mixed together to form this pastey greasey substance. Clean all that stuff off and lightly oil *( light oil...3 in 1 kind of oil) and reassemble.

You should hear the nice clean clicking of the rachet pawls as you roll backwards again!

Good luck and be careful!

I have a Lawn Boy 10685. Changed the blade and went to start the mower and the pull cord will not pull. I tried spinning the blade by hand with no luck. I took the starter apart and it spins fine. I check...

Remove the spark plug and try pulling the starter again. You may have a fuel leakage into the cylinder and it has caused a hydraulic lock. Check/change the needle and seat in the carb as this leaking is the usual cause if this type of problem. Good luck and please rate this solution.

the proper set up on thre bar which hols thr springs is plate lock handle part 107-3946 then the right hand torsion spring 108-0953,make sure the spring hooks over the plate lock, then left hand torsion spring then bar slides through left hand hole and lever release 40-1823-03 attaches to end of bar with a set screw

My Lawn Boy Pull Start is Locked Up... If I take the Pull Start off, it is fine. How do you know if it is the motor. I am able to get the blades to turn by hand. They do not turn easy like a windmill, but...

Remove spark plug before you ever try to turn engine by the blade then turn engine. If it is hard to turn your cylinder it is gaulded and needs to be serviced or replaced. Check with a professional repairman. Did you run engne low on oil?

Pull string locked up

check oil , if you didn't have sufficiant oil you may have blown the motor up . try turning mower up and turnning blade by hand to see if motor is froze. if so you can kiss this mower goodby ,or at least the motor. sorry .by the way maybe you would want to check the oil in your car before you blow it up too

Pull rope seems to be locked up...won't pull

make sure you can turn the blade by hand, make sure grass isn't stopping the blade after that make sure the break cable isn't bad, sometime's the cable don't disengage the break from the flywheel. Hope this works.
