If you have the installer of windows xp you can change the vista to xp. First check if the booting options is set to cd/dvd boot. In the cmos setup change the booting option from hdd to cd or dvd. Then insert the xp installer to the cd in follow the setup instruction

do you have a recovery key (f1,f2 etc) for the desktop, it flashed when you boot your desktop, press that key, it will recover your desktop to the os installed from the factory, it will be windows xp home edition
First make sure thats what you want to do since xp is no longer made. If you still want to go ahead you have to make sure you have the complete install and directions. You will have to remove vista first. But check the specs if you bought the computer with vista already installed you will not have the right drivers in your computer to go backwards in versions. Good luck. The reason the error comes up is that the install is trying to remove a component that is needed for your computer to operate. If you had xp and updated to vista, depending on how it was installed it would have removed the xp driver when updating.
If you would like to start up in the xp ,At computer start up hit F1 or F2 there are so many ways some times its hold the del key ,once your into the BIOS you can change the boot order of your drives to make the drive xp is on load first .You will have to do this everytime or buy a program that will do it for you .I would just leave the power unpluged on one of the drives until you need it that way it will be safe from a virus or if you have a hard drive crash you always have one good drive .Hops this helps.
Well yes and no. I believe you're asking if you can remove vista to install xp? It is possible to do so however HP/Compaq use a proprietary software to "tattoo" the motherboard which designates the unit as either a Vista computer or Other OS computer. Though it is possible to install and run XP on a Vista machine, complications may arise causing things like the OS to not properly validate and other software related issues.
1) Service Pack 2 is a service pack, not an operating system - you first have to install XP itself, which you'll have to buy.
2) It's entirely possible that there are no XP drivers available for one or more components of your laptop, so XP won't install on it. (Linux probably will.)
Yes that is surely possible.. you got the premium vista key along with your pc.. just use it when installing. or get the key from the dealer.. if you don have noted it down
It does not work with vista at least not for me. And besides with XP and Vista you shouldn't have to install it anyway as both OS's have a feature called plug and play which means that when you plug it in via a USB port Windows Xp automatically recognize it and its driver. Thats one thing about XP thats so great XP just about recognizes every joystick and game pad driver there is without installing the pads software.
the reason is the bios, when these pc's are built they are built to run Vista and the bios version is refering to vista and not XP, you will need to download and install an earlier version if this is possible, install XP then instal vista on a seperate partition if you require it.
