Mcdevfito75 here"s how to change the day and date on your vintage Seiko watch, Pull the stem out to the set position and simply turn the stem (winder) every second time around to the 1--2 3 O"oClock position the day will chage, once you get the day push in the stem in all the way, NOW with your fingernail just under the stem (winder) gently lift the stem up to it"s first notch or position, with the stem at this first notch or position, you can turn the stem and the hands won"t move but the date(number) will change, simply go to the correct number / date and your done, push the stem back in a your ready to go.

Just got a new Seiko watch but the date won't change automatically

Main cause would be that the date gear teeth have been stripped. This is done by setting the date whilst the hands are trying to change the date themselves (between 10pm and 2am). Always adjust the date with the hands around 6.0clock. You will need to return your watch to where you bought it for repair I'm afraid.

How to set day/date on an 1968 DX automatic Seiko watch

Seiko watches from this period should have a setting stem that pull out half-way and fully. Pulling the stem out fully permits you to set the time. Pulling the stem out half-way should let you set the date by moving the crown forward/clockwise and set the day of the week by moving the crown backward/counterclockwise.

However, for this to work correctly, the watch must have the correct set stem. I have worked with a number of watches, including Seikos, where a generic stem was substituted after someone accidentally pulled out the crown and stem (Seiko replacement parts can be tough to find in the U.S., especially for discontinued models). If an incorrect stem has been installed, the day/date setting procedure I've just described may no longer work correctly. At that point, setting the date involves advancing the hands to get to the right date; day of the week may not be able to be set at all.

Good luck!

Hello,

Seiko watches are a popular accessory for both men and women. The history of Seiko watches goes back to 1881 long time ago, when the company that was to become Seiko began. From the beginning, the method to set a Seiko watch has been designed to be a simple process.

The following are the steps to set a Seiko watch for the time, day and date function, and for setting the chronograph on an analog watch.

Set the Time:

  • THE CROWN
Pull the button on the side of the watch carefully, the crown, out to its most extended position. You will need to unlock the crown if your watch has a locking crown. To unlock, turn the crown counter clockwise. While the crown is pulled out in the setting position, the watch will cease functioning.
  • 12 O'CLOCK POSITION
Turn the crown clockwise to move the hands of the watch past the 12 o'clock position on the dial. The day and date will change to indicate AM setting but will not change for PM setting. It is recommended that you set a Seiko watch in the morning for instant day and date setting; however, this can be done manually.
  • FINISH
To finish setting the time, simply push the crown until it is flush with the side of the watch.

Good luck and thanks for using fixya.

Push crown back in, now pull crown out to set the date and time of day. Your watch is set and should change around mid nite

Seiko Diamatic Day Date Automatic Watch No: 219050

I have a Seiko Diamatic 780632. To set the day and date, pull the crown once and wind it upwards (away from you) to set the date; winding it downwards (towards you) will set the day. To set the time, you have to pull the crown twice and wind it towards you.
